Launching New Business: Please Comment

Hi folks,

we're launching a new site where merchants can open a store and sell files of any kind, such as clips and pictures.

We would like your comments, the good and the bad ones.

The site is currently in community technology preview so it is free to use at this moment. Pricing as not been determined yet.

Let us know about the interest in such a service.

The site is in my signature.

Thank you.

Clips4sale is not a direct competitor. The model is not the same. They have a shared store where all merchants are displayed. In Files2sell each merchant has its own store and is not linked to others. They will typically have their own domain name too. They also can sell files of any type, not just images and videoclips. Clips4sale merchants do not have a merchant account, whereas our merchants must have one. We do not target the same crowd.

Thank for your comments!

I missed that you have to have your own merchant account. Then whats the point of you then?

FOBOS 02-22-2009 08:59 PM

Thank you for the websites mentionned above, I will gladly review them and see where to position our service.

We build the software, we host, we do backups, hardware maintenance. The merchant only has to upload his files.

I'm glad you people are reacting, this helps me a lot to think about this project.

Thank you.

The software would be quite simple (and possibly provided by the merchant or hosting company for free), and we all know how plentiful hosting companies are...

I just don't see a case where your business would be useful to anyone if you aren't doing the processing.

Needing to have your own merchants in order to use your system is FAIL! Who is gonna hand over their merchants to you so you can process for them?? I will not..

ro8in 02-23-2009 05:53 AM

Ah wait so I need to tell my favourite processor to talk to you guys to get their system and your system to work with eachother.. Good luck getting your system to work with 100's of processors

Merchants need to have a merchant account, not other merchants.

Our system currently works with NetBilling and PlugNPay. Apart from entering their NetBilling account id or PlugNPay username, merchants who use those 2 companies do not need to contact their processor to configure anything as everything is already set up.

Well if you can put it in a zip or rar file then I guess you can :1orglaugh

As brought up by fuzebox, it may surely be more interesting to do the processing. We will have to use our own merchant account and send weekly checks.

looks good to me......... good luck with it

One criticism - work on your site's design. There is no CTA (call to action). Nothing is telling me to do anything there. What do you want me to do when I get there? If it's not clear to the user, they're just going to leave.

Best of luck to you!
