Wall Street Journal tackles the FREE internet economy

Thanks to all the illegal tube controversies, oversaturation of free materials online, and other issues discussed on all the adult webmaster boards, we are aware of the challenges and opportunities. It's interesting to see how the WSJ tackle the issue of FREE online economies: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123335678420235003.html

This isn't new news.... anyone who offers content (like myself) knows that were not *ONLY* appealing to the freeloaders - but having alot of freeloaders is a *GOOD* indication of how your doing, because eventually someone will buy what your selling.

It isn't new for adult webmasters for sure, but it is interesting how the WSJ looks at it since it offers a holistic view (including social media).

Just to be fair, it's not really the view of the Wall Street Journal on an editorial level. It's a columnist who has a book coming out on the same subject.

The Subscriber Model is the only model that truly works in the long run....and in that sense Porn is LIGHTYEARS ahead of the mainstream.

Porn has to once again be a pioneer in that model and offer something that's going to make the customers want to pay. What that is? Who knows....but I know it's not regular run of the mill video content. Flash video and high speed internet access has forever changed that.

In this world recession basic stuff online should be free. We pay up the ass for everything else, my cable tv and internet alone cost me $200 bucks a month... and lately I have noticed when I walk across the street and buy something...i am breaking more $5-20 dollar bills, in the past $1 bought you something...not anymore. Also you know that gas prices will be going up in the summer, it always does.

Ya that's easy to say....but whose paying the bills for the content producers?

Everyone wants shit for free but what they fail to realize is that time, effort, and $$$$$ are used up in creating this content.

I'm a Top 250 digger on Digg.com and one of the things that always urked me about the site is when people used to brag about using Ad Blocker or they would refuse to go to a site that had too many ads on it because it was intrusive. Failing to realize that without those Ads the content would not exist....and neither would Digg.

Not saying anyone should steal content, you should pay for premium services or content. For example, I prefer listing to internet radio...then downloading the music..and it's free. I can enjoy that song when it comes on...but I am not able to hear it anytime I like...well you can watch it on youtube. :Oh crap

just read it - idiocy passing itself off as common wisdom - sorry, that sucked -wsj is the lowest of the low for wisdom and vision. just hackery there.

For free is never going to be as good or as profitable. Youtube is still not making any profit. Even the guy who owns Pleanty of Fish says the free idea sucks compaired to pay.

The problem is these free sites get pennies for what used to sell for dollars..

The level of writing at the Wall St Post has gone down since Murdoch bought it. Pornographers and models should go on strike for 90 days. No new porn at all. Viva la revolucion!! Huelga!! :pimp
