Where are all the Republicons?

TheSenator 02-25-2009 03:16 PM

Who are the Republicans gonna nominate? Sarah Palin or Jindal

Juilan 02-25-2009 03:27 PM

It was one the most phony, pandering speeches I have ever seen.

I think it depends on how things are going in 3 years. If Obama is doing well and the stimulus plan works and things are looking good, it won't matter who they nominate. They will likely lose more seats in the house and senate and they will probably run out some second tier candidate who will get crushed by Obama. It is very difficult to beat an incumbent president. If that president is popular and doing well, it is nearly impossible.

If things aren't going well and the stimulus plan doesn't seem to be working then they might break out the top candidates and make a run at him. Palin? I think she sealed her fate with her VP run. She gets the conservative base fired up, but she scares a lot of the independents and she already is painted as an idiot. It is very difficult to overcome that. Jindal? I don't know much about him other than they say he is a rising star in the party. If he is going to make a run he will have to do a whole hell of a lot better than he did last night because last night he came off kind of like that half baked guy who works at the local dime store, not as someone you want running the country.

The republican party is divided right now and their basic strategy seems to be "wait for Obama to fail". If he does fail they can swoop in and take advantage of that. If he doesn't fail it will make them look terrible and their party will collapse even further. The republicans right now are kind of like the democrats were in the mid 90's. They don't have a lot of direction, there is infighting and power struggles in the party and they don't seem to have much of a plan. Add in the new census and the redistricting to follow that will be overseen by the democrats and it might be a very long time before the republicans get back into power.

I voted for this guy for governor. He used to a be common sense type of fellow....but ever since the national spotlight started shining and people started talking about him being the "future of the party" he's been nothing but a fucking parrot for the right-wingers.

A governor who cleans up the political cesspool that is Louisiana could write his own ticket after two terms....but only if he's his own man with his own ideas, not another conservative lemming following Boehner and McConnel off of a cliff.

But as the country gets acquainted with the Bayou's boy wonder, the stranger details of Jindal's religious or personal background remain largely unknown, even among the Republican grassroots. How many Americans know that Jindal boasted of participating in an exorcism that purged the spirit of Satan from a college girlfriend? So far, Jindal's tale of "beating a demon" remains behind the subscription wall of New Oxford Review, an obscure Catholic magazine; only a few major blogs have seized on the story.

You would be guessing correctly

Jindal's follow-up speech last night was horrible.

PurrrsianPussyKat 02-25-2009 09:03 PM

Since when do we need an opposition party follow up when the president speaks?

Did the dem's do that every time Bush gave a speech? I wasn't big on watching bush speeches, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

DaddyHalbucks 02-25-2009 09:14 PM

Jindal is a good man, after all, he is a Brown University man.

The Republicans are all over the place. I was listen to right wing radio and they were even having a hard time propping him up.

UFGators2007 02-26-2009 10:55 AM

The best hope for the Republican party is getting the laws changed so that the Governator Arnold can become president.:2 cents:

Standard practice for major addresses.

It's usually a non-news item (the rebuttal), but for some reason the networks are desperate to give attention to the republican minority.

When the stimulus was being debated, republican "guests" on cable news shows outnumbered democrats 2-1.
