why would you need that? I speak russian :)

d-null 02-26-2009 06:10 PM

to really learn a foreign language you need to be around speakers of the language

you might want to check out if any of your local community colleges offer any night classes

for sure you'll want to get pimsleur or rosetta, but like I said you need to be around native speakers to have a hope of getting fluent, if you could go to spend a couple of months in Russia would be extremely helpful

good luck and good idea, good language to learn

ArcherJanvier 02-26-2009 06:27 PM

I can tell you from personal experience that if English is your native tounge, Russian is an extremely difficult language to learn.

Unless you have a damn good reason, you might want to think twice about trying.

I took it in college, but that was before the fall of the Soviet Union, so I wonder if that many colleges offer it any more.

I started with a class of 50 people, but only 4 (myself included) even took the final.

There is a language learning DVD program on the market called "Rosetta Stone" that looks like it might be a promising idea - but I personally have never tried it.

Best of luck to you.

Archer

You don't even have a firm grasp on English yet.

lofasz 02-26-2009 06:59 PM

very easy comrade

Buy yourself one of them Russian mail-order brides and let the lessons begin.

Russian is very easy you just need to know 1 word "Wodka".:pimp

TheMilkman 02-26-2009 08:03 PM

visit petersburg..meet some cute russian girls and you'll learn the living russian with some pleasure :)
Or go in a school :2 cents:

HorseShit 02-26-2009 08:15 PM

Russian can not be taught, if you weren't born in Russia you are SOL

pornocruto 02-27-2009 05:48 AM

Grab yourself some practice and learning Russian dvds / cds whatever, learn the Russian alfabet
then go to Russia for a few months.

You will not learn it fluently without ever being there or at least speaking for a while with native Russian
speakers..

Good luck.

To write in Russian you just need to do "R"s backwards. True story

- russian
- chinese
- japanese

Sid70 02-27-2009 06:13 AM

i speak native russian and ukrainian, and i can speaks bits off Eangleash too :)
Really, Russian is not easy to learn and its not even because of your mouth physical difference but it also allows indirect word position in a sentence so you would feel fucked up.

I speak russian, i would suggest going to piratebay and download the pimsleur stuff. it's very good. but learning any language without being around native speakers or constant practice is pretty tough

Phil 02-27-2009 06:56 AM

its hard to learn and teach. too many rules thats hard to explain.

tatyana 02-27-2009 07:17 AM

Why would you want to? If you are going there, you can pretty much get by with english, especially in the big cities.

grumpy 02-27-2009 07:22 AM

you need a brain first.

UFGators2007 02-27-2009 08:10 AM

Pimsleur is good.

I'm learning Japanese right now because for some reason its structure makes the most sense to me, it's like mathematical formulas almost, if that makes sense. It's also pretty easy for me to pick out words before I even know what they are when I'm listening to Japanese people talk, one of my best friends since I was in HS is Japanese and she's been after me to try and learn it for ages because she thinks I have a 'natural affinity' for it because I could figure out words just from listening to her family.

So what I'm saying is, I think those three languages are pretty different and it probably would be beneficial to try the first level of all three of them on livemocha or something (I know I pimp the hell out of that site, but I'm using it for Japanese and French and I love it) and see if any of them seem easier to you than the others?

I dunno, from my experience certain languages just stick more in my brain than others. For some reason, I can get Japanese and French phrases 'stuck' in my head like a song, but it never happens with, say, Spanish, even though on paper Spanish should be just as easy as French to learn.

Sid70 02-27-2009 01:04 PM

from my perspective Italian is the easiest one to learn.

papill0n 02-27-2009 01:12 PM

I punched 'learn russian' into google and 2 minutes later I have found 10 sites where I can learn russian.
