So what exactly are they filtering? Are they actually cleaning the water or are they filtering the water for food? What is the end result?

Cool stuff indeed. Makes you think also of how many heavy metals and impurities people from countries where people consume mostly seafood ingest.

They're filter feeders I think. So they're filtering krill and other tiny monsters. And surrounding grit with pearl makin' juice.

Yeah, natural systems are amazing. Plus, oysters taste great :)
