WTF: Dell.com my order with them for laptops was too big.....

Ok, so I order 10 cheap laptops I need for copying many dvds on some orders we have.
Ordered on dell.com I choose bank wire in advance.
Confirmation comes in by email.
I wire the money (urgent swift because I am in a hurry) 10 mins. later and see the money leaving my account 3 hours later.
12 hours later I get an email my order is cancelled BECAUSE I ORDERED 10 LAPTOPS.
They tell me to ORDER 5 LAPTOPS AND MAKE 2 DIFFERENT ORDERS.....WTF??? :Oh crap. How can a client order too much if he already fucking paid in advance.

Here's the email they send me:

Dear Customer,

We have cancelled your Dell Order NLXXXX-XXXX-XXXX
as the quantity is more than 10 laptops please please place 2 orders for 5 laptops .

To place a new order please go to www.dell.com

Thanks,

Dell

I just don't get it :helpme
Imagine going to a bakery an order 2 white bread, and they say no: 1 only, go outside, get back in line for the second bread :disgust

don't get me started on Dell...I've had more trouble over the years with them than you would believe (like the time I was on the phone with tech support when my power-supply was smoking and they kept asking me to make sure it was plugged into the wall!)

LOL that's funny.
hehe

Sosa 02-27-2009 02:52 PM

Just ordered a server from them last week. Had 3-5 day shipping and it was here in two days. Very surprised

dyna mo 02-27-2009 02:54 PM

i'm sure they promptly returned your wire transfer.

Tom_PM 02-27-2009 02:56 PM

Was the total over 10 grand? maybe that was why.

no offense, but why in the fuck would you have it plugged in if it were smoking?

or was this after you had unplugged it, it kept smoking?

I hope so, if not, I just want the 10 laptops I paid for.
why 2 x 5 max order and not 1 x 10 ? I did not ask for credit, I am not paying with CC, they have supplied me before, I just don't get it :Oh crap

aniloscash 02-27-2009 03:38 PM

I doubt I'll ever buy a dell again

notime 02-27-2009 03:52 PM

I am not unhappy with their service, quality, products or deliveries. That's not the question here.

I order 10 pc's, pay in advance and then they mail me (after I paid) I need to order it again in 2 orders of 5 AFTER I've paid in advance by bank. And they don't give me a reason why.
I am still missing the point (..burocracy..)

rowan 02-27-2009 04:00 PM

You're going to sit 10 laptops on a table to copy DVDs? Why didn't you just build (or buy) a monster tower with a bunch of DVD writer drives?

Belinda 02-27-2009 04:03 PM

can you order 11? I need a new one!

Copy to external HD's for this project AND make copies on a raid 6 filer while we are at it.
Towers we already have 6 of them, but that is not why the LT are needed

riddler 02-27-2009 09:06 PM

I need 10.000 dvds copied to local raid 6 filers. Replicators just copy to another dvd.

Do you think a laptop drive will be capable of ripping 1,000 DVDs in quick succession? You might find yourself calling Dell for warranty service soon. :upsidedow

Why not just use one or two monster machines with multiple drives rather than 10 laptops? I still don't get it.

HorseShit 02-28-2009 05:54 AM

that must be a Dell Europe thing because I've been through many orders of 40+ computers and laptops at once

hjnet 02-28-2009 06:01 AM

The last time I've ordered a DELL they've charged a $140 delivery fee for that package, maybe they want to charge that twice to you :)

Once the job is done, I sell off the laptops at the same price I got them for. The monster machines are hard to sell later I guess.
But you suggestion was correct :thumbsup

Almost 4 days later. No refunds yet. No email reply yet on my 2 emails. No laptops yet.

Call them ASAP.

Get connected with the Dell business/corporate division and have them set up an account for you.

Don't deal with regular customer service or you will get jerked around. Let them know that you are a corporate client and not a random dell purchaser.

They'll assign a dedicated representative to you as well, btw

pornguy 03-02-2009 03:11 PM

I had an issue with Dell when I ordered this laptop. I ordered it with the 2 harddrives that they offer on the build your own thing. They sent it with 1 and then tell me that model does not come with 2 drives. But they charged me for the second drive. So after about 4 calls, I finally got a supervisor to walk trhough the build the same way I did, and sure enough their own system offers the computer with two drives and charges you for the second. But the laptop machine box wont hold a second drive.

They did not want to refund the 150 so they sent me an external drive.

They are mine tomorrow when I get back from the dentist in the morning :winkwink:
Everybody know it's getting harder to get sales AND get paid. I gave them both in advance and I will let them know for sure I won't take any bullshit for an answer. I am always really decent and understanding till somebody pulls some crappy injustice on me

The second they sent me an e mail saying the order was canceled I'd have called them and stayed on the phone until I was assured I was sent the money back.

Not wait 4-5 days and hope for the best.

:2 cents:

KillerK 03-02-2009 03:49 PM

Maybe he needs to run dvdshrink and he is copying protected dvds, thats why a tower won't work. Unless you were making copies of the same dvd.

Not to worry :winkwink:
I'll just give them a few days to see if they mean well before I get upset with them and get the job done. After all I paid them 4 days ago. I see no reason why they would fail with a paying in advance customer.

I need to copy 10.000 adult dvds without copy protection (which we license to 3rd parties) on some 48TB raid 6 filers in our office. So we can send it to the encoders by fiber connections to have them all encoded to .iso, mpg2 rip and manual scene splitting in MPG2 with screenshots.
We just need some extra pc's next to the ones we already have in our offices.
