Man, I am hurting. Oral surgery today...

Been putting this off a while. Had one wisdom tooth extracted today (#17) because it was touching one of my molars that needs a root canal and crown done (#18). The wisdom tooth itself (lower left in my jaw) wasn't bothering me, it just needed to go to make room for the root canal and crown in the lower left molar. The local anesthetic worked well, the extraction didn't take long and wasn't all that uncomfortable. But now six hours later, I am hurting!

Tylenol with codeine is helping a little, but it still hurts. They told me not to spit! Yeah right, I have thick fucking drool practically choking me. And I was told to eat something before taking the Tylenol with codeine. Not sure what they are thinking, I don't actually want to move my jaw. I was just able to open up and drink a protein shake to coat my stomach a bit so the Tylenol wouldn't make me nauseous. But eating anything even semi-solid is out for tonight at least! Now I have put some more fucking cold ice on my jaw to reduce swelling, yippee! Have to film two scenes tomorrow, that's going to be fun.

how old are you?

i had my wisdom removed when i was 23 or so. the upper teeth float but the lower bind to the jaw. it does hurt like fuck. i was popping advil for a month from the persistent, dull pain.

I had all of them removed last year. Also got a root canal treatment last year and will have another one this year. I didn't go to the dentist for about 4 years and things got really shitty.

Good luck. Whatever you do, don't get high. That was the worst idea in my life. I could feel the blood pounding thru my jaw like my heart was there :1orglaugh

Just turned forty. My teeth are pretty straight. I just have some old, broken fillings from when I was a teenager that need replacement and also now need root canals & crowns on some of the worse ones. I don't know why so many people get the wisdom teeth removed all at once, but in my case I did it just to save this adjacent molar that needs the root canal and crown since the wisdom tooth was rubbing against it.

The second Tylenol with codeine is helping take the edge off the pain a little right now. I only ate breakfast and one protein shake today though, so I am probably going to be starving tomorrow. Hope I am able to move my jaw, because right now I am not eager to do anything more than let a little drool drip out every so often. Thanks for the well wishes everyone.

Yeah I thought the better of that. No smoking for me tonight. The codeine is giving me a little buzz so I'll just live with that. I have never been a big pill guy, but now I think I know why so many porn chicks like Vicodins and other pills.

bausch 03-03-2009 01:13 AM

Why didnt u just get put to sleep instead?

I was put under conscious sedation and don't remember anything. Had 4 taken out at the same time. Didn't feel a thing afterwards either except I remember being very scared to eat and scared to swallow anything because I had gauze in my mouth and was afraid to dislodge it. I wanted to eat something so I could take the vicodin they gave me. Turns out I didnt need it because there was no pain, however I got nauseous from the vicodin itself because i didnt have enough food in my stomach.

Or a nice infection :)

Buddy smoked pretty soon after getting his wisdom teeth extracted and got an infection... his jawline was a little swollen on the left side and he asked me to look in the back to see if anything looked weird cuz he said only that side was aching and throbbing

I said nothing looks wrong... and he goes "fuck what the hell" and pressed his jawline (with his mouth still open) and whatever it was fucking popped a SHIT TON of puss right into his mouth

Oh man... super nasty

Like that one video of the spider bite draining.. but into his mouth LKDJFhLSDKf hagdkfjgsal :throwup

2012 03-03-2009 01:52 AM

maybe a little whiskey might help :2 cents:

sexandcash 03-03-2009 03:10 AM

that sounds just terrible
ya the surgery is not the problem.
It's when the glorious, life nourishing numbers and anesthetics wear off.
Not even close but I had a root canal two weeks ago and most of the day of I as fine. For a few days after I wanted to just murder people because my mouth hurt so fucking much. Try to eat really really soft pieces of bread, pudding, apple sauce and all of the glorious baby food you can think of so that you won't want to hurl when taking your tylenol. The dentist can't give you some better pain killers? :(

Feel better!
Dental treatments and oral surgery stink!

people remove their wisdom teeth because most people have small jaws and the those teeth do not fit.

the older a person is the more cemented the bottom teeth adhere to the jaw bone. it took me a month for the ache to go away. you will eat. you will find away to stay alive :)

tranza 03-03-2009 07:08 AM

Those teeth stuff are fucked up...hope you get well soon.

General anesthesia is not only expensive (an extra $450 on top of my HMO-discounted tooth extraction price of $423), but it is also far too risky and life threatening for a relatively simple procedure like one wisdom tooth extraction. The surgery went fine, it was pretty quick and not that uncomfortable. Just the aftermath sucked. Today I am feeling a lot better, no more blood in my mouth, just a little pain and my cheek is really swollen. I ate my usual breakfast of tuna, toast and a banana and just didn't really chew it much. I will be fine to go film today.

On a more general note I think it is often unnecessary that so many people get recommended to get all their wisdom teeth removed at once at a young age. I only removed the lower left one for a specific purpose- to make room for the adjacent to get reduced and get a root canal, post and crown. Frankly, I do not even think it was really all that necessary. I think the dentist and endodontist who insisted I do it are just covering their ass in case I have complications latter. Otherwise I would have gladly left all my wisdom teeth in my mouth. They weren't bothering me sitting just under my gumlines at the back corners of my mouth.

The Seduction of Art 03-03-2009 10:50 AM

Harsh! Hang in there and stay away from ice cubes and candy apples.

pornguy 03-03-2009 10:57 AM

DONT SPIT.. DROOL it out. The spitting puts pressure and will make it hurt worse..

As stupid as this sounds get some honey and put it on the sore spot in your mouth. It will ease the pain and swelling.

Reak AGV 03-03-2009 10:58 AM

Hope the pain goes away quickly man!
