THis is all short term fixes. Nothing for the long term. Interviews with people about where they were going to spend the money proved that. Some were going to create 300-500 jobs, but the jobs wouldn't last over a few months. So the people they hire will be back on the Unemployement lines.

When the money runs out, you have 2 options... 1. Depression/very long & deep recession 2. Pump more money in to keep the projects and programs going. The spending has to end at some stage and when it does you also have the added debt to pay off. Obama has done nothing more than mortgage the future so you are all a little more comfortable for a few years. |

Though to his credit, no one wants to be the president in power when all hell breaks loose - especially also being the first black president...lord knows there's already some pieces of shit scheming to assassinate him. |
fact: Road work in the winter = shitty roads being built

Going deeper into debt to get yourself out of debt is a very short term solution.
This stimulus will fail. I Don't want it to, but it will. The card house is sadly going to have to crumble and we will have to rebuild from the bottom up. Printing more money is just going to delay the inevitable. |

Riddle me this - Can you explain to me why a single snow storm causes hundreds of thousands of people on the east coast to loose power for days at a time? It's because most of the people on the east coast have their power, telephone, cable tv, and Internet sent to them via a cable that dangles from their fucking roof. You've got to be kidding me, right? I haven't lived in a house that had a power line hooked up to the roof since the 1980s. All of this needs to be underground. It's safer, more dependable, and looks a lot better. So after the roads, we can fix our power infrastructure. Then after that, we can start building stuff. I'm sure Chicago needs a new, larger, and more modern airport. Remember the Bay Bridge when it fell into bay in 1989 after the earthquake? Well, they've been talking about and planning building a new bridge for over a decade. I'm sure there are tens of thousands of bridges that need to be replaced. I live in a town with 70k people in it - How about a public sports center? We can create jobs that will leave the general public with something nice that will encourage us to keep fit. How about some new parks? How about some new dams - We can create some new reservoirs that will turn into huge public parks, create energy, and better control the flow of water to drought stricken states. At the same time we'll create lots of new jobs. Sounds like a win / win / win / win situation to me. Here's a no brainer - how about re-building all of our schools? The high school I went to was fucking majestic. It was huge; We had three huge indoor gyms, showers, a full automotive school; We had a huge culinary arts program with it's own real life restaurant open to the public. Now explain to me why my kid is going to class in a fucking trailer? How about we rebuild our schools from the ground up? Colleges too. The choice here is simple. We can pay people welfare, or we can put them to work bettering our infrastructure and our way of life. We can bail out AIG (again) or we can rebuild every highway in the US while employing millions to do it. |
