People make mistakes, these are our soldiers who defend this country. Agree with the wars or not they still protect us. People make mistakes, and to discharge them over this is crap.

Mr Pheer 03-04-2009 03:27 AM

Being relieved of their current positions doesnt mean they are going home. The military has a general rule: You fuck up, you move up.

They will just move to positions in division headquaters or other cushy jobs.

One engine had already failed making it nearly impossible to fly to the other base. He determined that he could make it to Miramar and not the other base.

might wanna re read that cause this is very clear

But the tapes indicate that the ailing jet was closer to Coronado when the pilot reported a possible problem with the second engine. Miramar is ringed by freeways and bordered on its western end by residential areas that include a high school.

SmokeyTheBear 03-04-2009 04:16 AM

im sure you would feel differently if it were your 2 young daughters who were killed because some guy broke the rules and flew over a residential area. Seems pretty simple to me, they made the rule so you dont accidently kill people, he broke the rule , as a result he killed people.

StaceyJo 03-04-2009 04:31 AM

Real bullshit.

Fletch XXX 03-04-2009 06:45 AM

i ALWAYS feel threatened when they fly military planes, jets, helis or whatever over me.

they shouldnt be allowed to do it imo.

go be rambo somewhere else.

our tax dollars hard at work so redneck Johnny can blow things up and fly a jet.

This is not true in any fashion unless you are an O-5 or above.

Where does it say "discharged"?

"Four officers at Miramar have been relieved of duty for failing to follow safety procedures and allowing the Hornet to fly over the residential area, and nine other military personnel received lesser reprimands."

The four "officers relieved of duty" means they got a transfer out of their unit and into another unit.

As for the "lesser reprimands", this most likely means something like office hours and a small reduction in pay for a short period.

You guys are making it sound like this is a huge deal; This stuff goes on daily in the military but usually doesn't make the news.

seeandsee 03-04-2009 08:54 AM

it's shit

They only care when American cilivians die.

Tanker 03-04-2009 10:04 AM

maybe the four just got non punitive letters of caution, me and 19 Marines got that once for a huge fight that broke out and we ended up in the middle off it. Frat boys gone wild ended up starting a fight with a couple Marines not realizing how many were really there at the event

saved our ass's when the Congressional hearing that wanted to investigate a fight we couldn't be punished twice for the same incident

in a military mans world it is them vs civilians.

military does not care nor does it ever try and protect civilians, look at war stats to validate my point.

cherrylula 03-04-2009 10:11 AM

wow they killed a Mom, a Grandma, a toddler and a 2 month old baby. :(

TheDA 03-04-2009 10:19 AM

Reading that, I would have hoped they got a more severe punishment. They fucked up, they should be punished.

Would you be saying that if you took your car to a mechanic and he returned it to you with a cut break line that caused you to get into a wreck?

"Military officials announced they had disciplined 13 Marines for a series of avoidable mechanical and human errors that led to the crash, which killed four members of the same family, including two children."

pornguy 03-04-2009 10:35 AM

That article says that it was over procedures of weather the aircraft should have even been flown. Had the been a commercial airplane you would have been yelling to sue them and fry the pilot.

Sadly, it all comes down to the pilot and if you ask me, he was the most negligent of them all. He knew or should have known there were mechanical issues with the aircraft. And he had the choice to fly it. It also seems he had a choice to land it on Coronado. and choose against that as well.

pornguy 03-04-2009 10:38 AM

Dupe. post

DarkJedi 03-04-2009 10:42 AM

dumb jarheads fucked up, got disciplined.

what's the problem again?

STFU.

V_RocKs 03-04-2009 01:07 PM

You are clear to land on Coronado Island...
You are clear to land on Coronado Island...
Distressed pilot you are clear to land on Coronado Island...

Pilot claims in the thick of things he did not hear the controller telling him to go there and only heard the Miramar controllers telling him to fly over a very populated patch of land instead...

Pilot, busted. Controllers on the ship and in Miramar, busted. Commanding officers, busted.

Seems pretty usual for such an event.

seeric 03-04-2009 01:22 PM

shoulda landed on coronado
