Weird letter from an affiliate...

So i checked my business mail today. I open up an envelope and its a letter and one of my affiliate program checks.

The letter says he's returning my check because he's never heard of my company and has never done business with my company. If i send him any more free money, he will contact the attorney general of North Carolina blahblahblah.

Who the hell would create a fake affiliate program account, with some random guys name and address, and generate $200+ in sales?

Anybody want to claim this free money? :upsidedow

Wonder if the guy is a preacher or some sort of politician and he's got a webmaster trying to nail him with peddling porn?

Sounds very reasonable... good thinking.

It's probably something very similar to this.

probably the webmaster just moved and didn't update his address in your program... :2 cents:

Nope, the guy that wrote me back had the same name and address...

I googled his name, i guess he's an investment banker. Maybe his wife found out and made him mail it back :)

The domain that sent the traffic has expired, otherwise i would check whois.

Please give money as prize for best photochop. In this thread http://www.gfy.com/fucking-around-and-business-discussion/891300-dirty-exclusive-pic-tribute-thread-resolution.html or make your own. Gfy needs more chop contests instead of post random numbers.

there need to be a standard set for when things like this happen. The first thing to do would be to notify the affiliate by email/ICQ/phone. If there is no response, the next step would be to prevent access to the account temporarily.

Either way might get the attention of the webmaster in question.

For example, I know that that personally I've switched addresses several times last year, some of which are in different countries.

I also have numerous affiliate accounts some of which I send traffic and others I let sit. Sometimes things slip though the cracks, so to speak.

also a reasonable possibility there, but i like the idea where someone signed up in his name to get him in trouble better:thumbsup

Did you see if his pass works for his email? Find the welcome email there and you'll have proof that he joined!

_Richard_ 03-05-2009 05:13 PM

i'm guessing that the company sending out the money is different from the affiliate program?

could he be having a blond moment?
