You'd think the children of the world's richest man could get anything they wanted.

But Bill Gates' kids aren't allowed to have any Apple products, the Microsoft founder's wife tells Vogue magazine.

"There are very few things that are on the banned list in our household," Melinda Gates, a Microsoft millionaire in her own right, tells interviewer Michael Specter. "But iPods and iPhones are two things we don't get for our kids."

I've chatted several times at Mariners games with Jeff Raikes who is now the Gates Foundation CEO. He sits in the seat right in front of me. He's always on his windows mobile equiped smartphone. I know one of his daughters has an Iphone cause I'd not seen one and it was right after they came out. Guess he's not as strict as Gates even though he's worked for MS for like 18 years.

Friend of mine was doing marble work at the house owned by the CEO of McDonalds. His wife was there and they came back from lunch with Burger King bags. His wife made them eat outside. Wouldn't let them in the house with the Burger King, not even on the property. Crazy.

Big deal. They're guaranteed to live a good life with dad's money. Even if they get just a tiny fraction of it.

I'm pretty sure the Sony PS3 is on that list. I dont see that as odd, think about how the media and other companies would use that against MS if the kids were known to use the competitions products. Its business and some people will do anything to get ahead.

Look at the Apple commercials comparing Vista/Windows to the extra Apple line. MS makes and OS not the hardware for PC so of course you're going to have compatiblity problems.

I'd do the same. like I said before in another post it business. Its not about being an ass or anything like that you have to worry about how simple things like that can blow up and become a campaign about how BK is served at McD's Ceo house. Sorry but i can agree with any CEO or suit that protects there company buy not having the competition product around them.

and if he did let them have ipods you guys would say that you can't believe he let his kids have ipods because it shows they don't trust their own products.
they probably do have it but not allowed to take it outside the house because of bad publicity if they are seen using it.

iPod is overrated anyway. It probably had the best marketing of any product in history. So good that people were embarrassed to walk around with something that wasn't an iPod even though their Zune, Creative or SanDisk was just as good or better.

fair enough, my kids arn't allowed to use windows - or any pc for that matter.

I think if his kids have all that dough and privilege lavished on them, it is not too much to ask that they show some respect by not flaunting a hostile competitor's product.
