Streaming Tips For Newbie On Paysites Biz :P ( PaySite Owners / Streamers Help? )

Hey guys! i'm about to launch a couple of paysites and i'm configuring the streaming stuff on members area! Could you share with me some of your experience and answer some of my questions?

1. Flash Players:

Right now the best ones i found so far are FlowPlayer ( http://www.flowplayer.org ) and JW Player ( http://www.longtailvideo.com/ ). A lot of porn sites are using currently JW Player ( Brazzers, Porn.com guys, etc ), but FlowPlayer seems to be a more solid product, lets say that when i check both sites, JW Player seems to be a sort of project started by a coder for hobbie and flowplayer something thought and designed from scratch to be what it is today, so i think i will go with Flow Player, but switching from one to the other is really easy :P What are your experiences using them?

2. Streaming Technology ( PHP Streaming, RTMP Servers, LightHttpd )

So far this is where i'm getting stucked! While developing members area code, i was using the PHP streaming script with JW Player, works fine locally but when uploading stuff to server it goes toooooooooo slow ... So next step was switching to a RTMP Server:

Red5: First of all i installed Red5 Streaming Server, which is an Open Source solution which claims to support all Adobe Flash Media Server features and more ... Let me tell you that installing it was not easy .... Took me like some time to make it work ..... There is not much clear documentation or support for it .... And i was getting after finally installing it some errors with my videos so finally i decided to switch to ....

Wowza Media Server: This is a paid solution but seems to be a very Solid product with good support and comunity articles and you can lease it for only 65 bucks monthly, so its great for starting projects! you can even download a free full functional version for you to test and develop your stuff with it and if it works fine for you then you can lease it :)

Still when i try to play the movies with my Wowza streaming server, its going tooooooooo slow, so i'm not sure if i'm doing something wrong or what! I'm hosting my server in choopa, i have a 75MBPS package and i'm currently burning 45MBPS, my servers CPU is 80 idle and i have free RAM memory, i'm not swapping! so i'm not fucking sure why its streamming this slow!

So, after sharing what i done so hopefully this could help someone, here are my questions:

Whats the best streaming solution you would recommend? lighthttpd or a streaming server? which streaming server?

Streaming format? I'm trying to use h264, do you use flv instead?

How do you stream your stuff on your members area? Are you paying one of those networks which deliver content near your surfers or just streaming from your servers? What technology do tube8/pornhub/xvideos or such tube sites use which get their streams loading that fast?!?!

Think we may have talked some last week, but I was in the midst of a move. Still getting new house finished up yet, so still tight on time, but I do consulting on this, and also have some stand alone solutions. Can re - encode all your existing content to the best format, etc etc etc. [email protected] Announcing new website for this hopefully this week. Move has just been brutal, plus desktop died and haven't had time to diagnose what needs replaced yet (hardware issue grr). So running behind on this. From point in the right direction, to full setup install, thumbs, descriptions, titles, whatever. Works with any CMS not a plugin, but easy integration. Hit me up soon.

mp4/h.264 on Flash Media Server if you're files are big and bitrates are high. My host recently set up a demo for me where I could sample my videos on Red5, Wowza, FMS and lighttpd. FMS was the clear winner. Wowza was a close second but def had more of a buffer delay issues. Red5 and lighttpd were not up to par.

Great answer bro :) That will help surely a lot of people willing to start a config :P

I will go with Wowza then cause i cant afford ( Actually i dont want too :P ) Adobe FMS and i already have everything setup for it :P

btw, what Flash Player are you using ? FlowPlayer/JW Player/Adobe Player/Custom/Other ?

Another question, some people are telling me that they hear the audio stream but are not being able to watch the video stream, are they missing the h264 codec or its maybe something about my streaming server configuration? They claim to have last Flash version and Codec packs :(
