How Often Do You Backup?

Everyone talks about it but do you do it regularly? I am finally setup to have my HD backed up up daily... Better safe than sorry.

Do you also keep a backup somewhere out of your house or office? :2 cents:

then I also have a quick bat file that downloads daily working files to a thumbdrive

Every weekend.

I store my data on a dedicated NAS (Network Attached Storage) box, which uses RAID to ensure data integrity in the event of a HD failure. That's the first level of protection.

Once daily any new or changed files get copied to a standalone HD which is installed in a removable caddy. I have two of them, when I visit my mum I swap them over.

So at any one time my data is sitting on three distinct storage devices, although obviously the data at my mum's place isn't as up-to-date as the data sitting on the NAS.

Another solution for offsite storage if you don't have family or friends nearby is a safe deposit box...

every now and again, but then i drink some milk and that gets me all loose.

lol.....

I backup every time I make any major changes.

I don't right now but 1 backup is kept in a fire/water proof safe... Offsite would be ideal, true.

That's a good idea! I might get a third drive and store it locally in a fireproof safe...

PC -> safe -> mum -> <repeat>

I wonder if anyone has come up with a fireproof drive enclosure?

I don't backup often enough, although I should.
Is there a program y'all would recommend? :D

Once a night any changed files in certain folders are backed up.

About once a month I burn certain folders to DVD and keep it in a fire safe. just make sure the safe is rated for media. i think most safes get really hot inside and that is fine for paper and jewelry, but plastic discs and thumbdrives could melt.

My sites = every 6 hours
my personal computers = never. I reformat them every 2 months anyways. I love working on a freshly reformatted computer. Like its brand new.
