There is nothing wrong with the economy.

People don't need jobs. If they did they wouldn't show up 45 fucking minutes late to interviews. :)

BlackCrayon 03-10-2009 04:30 PM

I heard there are tent cities popping up in california. Any truth to this?

As many as 50 people a week are turning up and the authorities estimate that the tent city is now home to more than 1,200 people.

I love how everyone cries that they aren't making and money online anymore, but when offered GOOD paying gigs they just fuck around all day with a finger up their ass and basically don't do shit.

Fucking assholes want everything just handed down to them.

Hard working people always have ways to make money. FACTS.

well, considering at one point, not too long ago, it was reported that 700 families a day were losing their home a day in California, id say I am surprised the numbers are so low.

Most are living with relatives I guess,...

Heart-breaking to see that. Specially considering that such tent cities also appeared during the Great Depression. They called them HOOVERVILLES.

Tent cities must really burn the government's ass.

Its tough to collect property taxes on a tent.

I heard these new tent cities are being nicknamed "Bushville" much like the old hoovervilles

Stuff like that never ceases to amaze me. I see it everyday here as well; people are motivated to complain but not to work hard or even take a serious attitude when it comes to normal things like showing up on time to an appointment.

many people are looking for jobs but few are looking for work

became a lazy ass country, plenty of work just lazy bums, busy on myspace, facebook, blogging, and craigslist

fuck those people die fuckers, I send work to other countries not because its cheaper (manyy cases now its same price) its just they fucking work

and to the many who do work well and i have plenty that bust their ass for me day in day out props to you, with all the distractions around to still be focused and hard working may it be programming, designing, content production and many other things im grateful to those people.

good luck finding a good solid guy, remember the day someone gives you any excuse fire them, real people work around excuses

tony286 03-10-2009 07:57 PM

Alot of people want and will work hard in this country. Ive known and have been a very hard worker.People that didnt pull their weight usually didnt last too long. We are really blessed to be in the industry we are in that we can market to the world. Thank god every day that's not you.

This post, and this thread are so dead fucking on.

I do endless interviews all week, every week, for models and other jobs. While there is a percentage who want the work, there are many many more who waste your time. Show up late. Cancel for bullshit reasons. My personal favorite is the stomach flu, also known as drinking too much the night before.

I used that classic back when I used to drink.

Anyways, I always confirm appointments. Provide my number should they run late, need to cancel, whatever. You would be surprised how many simply do not call, then want to reschedule. I could go on and on with examples that are fucking baffling.

As I said in some similar thread a few weeks back. It has NOTHING to do with the money. I have had same issue with contractors doing construction remodeling work on the house for thousands, as the girls making a few hundred bucks for a few hours work.

Last week I had 7 clients who needed various design work done. Graphics, CSS, and some other things. I offered them to 6 different designers (some of them well recognized board 'designers') and all turned down the work.

One of the pieces to the deal was doing a couple quick, non-working, mock ups to show some different stuff. They did not have to be finished product, or even that fancy. Simple navigation things, and page layout or graphic concept. All refused the work. In the end, sent work to a Paki. $350-750+ per job, 7 clients, turned down by the same people chasing every design job. Fucking unbelievable.

iAlien is one of them. I felt bad for his situation and offered him 2 or 3 different design jobs. Every time some new excuse. The guy is begging for business on the boards, then you throw him a bone, and he doesn't want to work. Not once. Three different times!!

Guess they would rather ambulance chase some $100 contents, and $15 banner work.

Big money, small money.. models, construction people, programmers, designers, jack of all trade types.... the behavior is the same. Like I concluded before. Some people have a work ethic, know how and want to work and make money.

Others just want to pretend they want to work or do any real business.

I would agree if it were not the same behavior from...

1. Contractors.
2. Cleaning ladies.
3. Photographers.
4. Models.
5. Maintenance folk.
6. Part timers.

My example is not just models and this business. I have interviewed for many things over the past year or two. Same behavior whether hundreds, or thousands on the line.

Fucking ridiculous.

our industry is way better than others trust me, in the real world it takes 5 designers to put together a site that in adult takes a half a guy, things get done way quicker in adult so imagine how long shit takes to get done in mainstream

a company in adult that does 50 million net a year can run with 15 employees and one phone meeting a month in mainstream they would have a entire office building and 500 employees 15,000 HR meetings a year, 200 sex harassment suits and a bunch of other junk

coming from mainstream I can appreciate this industry allot

Agreed.

No business is perfect. But in the end. Some want to work, and have the motivation to do so.

These guys are right Tony, it's like that everywhere.

Before I started in this biz I was in retail management and it was the same thing.

Phone would ring 5 times a day

Them: Y'all hirin?

Me: Always looking for good people

Them: How much you paying?

Me: Depends on experience. It would be better if you came in to fill out an application

Them: What shift you hirin fo?

Me: I need people who are flexible and can work different shifts

Them: CLICK

They don't want a job. They want bankers hours and a paycheck, with no experience and no education.

I had several people that literally started from the ghetto, no education and no experience, got hired at minimum wage, worked hard and were willing to learn, and within 6 months got promoted to management making a solid middle class income.
Some of those moved up to District Manager within 5 years and make a solid upper middle class income.

Yet hundreds of others got hired, and came in late all the time, called in sick, did a half-assed job, complained about everything other people didn't do that they thought they should have done, complained about what someone else got that they thought they deserved, stole things (or money) and got themselves fired.
These people spend their entire lives bouncing from minimum wage job to minimum wage job. It's pretty sad considering the opportunities are there if you're willing to work for them.

I even sent Scott follow up emails about emails lol all ignored. As you said, I guess the work goes to outsourcers and never americans anyway though

I know several people that lost their homes... What happens is that they can't afford the mortgage, so they stop paying it. It takes 3 to 6 months to foreclose, at which point they just move into a rental for an amount that they CAN afford, and the 3 months of not paying gives them the deposit money for the new rental

When they say 700 families are losing their homes, they are simply talking about them losing the homes they OWN.... they can, and do, still rent.
