Anyone here have Restless Legs Syndrome?
The first time somebody told me they had it, I thought it was a joke. But, apparently it can be pretty debilitating, especially when trying to go to bed...
I notice that I move my legs around a lot when I try to fall asleep...:disgust Restless legs syndrome (RLS, Wittmaack-Ekbom's syndrome, or sometimes, but inaccurately, referred to as Nocturnal myoclonus) is a condition that is characterized by an irresistible urge to move one's body to stop uncomfortable or odd sensations. It most commonly affects the legs, but can also affect the arms or torso. Moving the affected body part modulates the sensations, providing temporary relief. RLS causes a sensation in the legs or arms that can most closely be compared to a burning, itching, or tickling sensation in the muscles. Some controversy surrounds the marketing of drug treatments for RLS. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Restless_legs_syndrome |

people who move their leg all the time when they sit
I just call that annoying didnt know it was a disease |

I really think I've had this condition but it stopped.
Right now, I still move a lot before falling asleep, but it's not because of strange sensations in my legs anymore. But I really envy the people who can fall asleep within 5 minutes, even if only moderately tired. |
I got it. Im affected more when I eat alot a few hours before sleep. I got a good cure though. I just make my GF massage my legs and I'm good.
|
I get it occasionally. I feel that if I don't move my legs the muscles tense up. My wife usually notices that I'm doing it before I do.

It's not fake. The cause is dopamine deficiency according to physicians.

They don't actually know enough about it to be able to prove it. It's one of the umbrella diseases like fibromyalgia that they diagnose people with, to push drugs. Look at what they did to autism. It becomes such a broad category that they can't prove through testing or otherwise.
We think you have __this__, let's try __drugs__. |

thats like saying this syndrome is due to the fact the earth is round |

its not a disease - its called get out and do some exercise.
Every being on this planet (be it animal or human) is by nature, coded to use up the energy that it builds up. Try to keep a dog indoors for a week with no exercise - check out what happens. But after you take it out for a 2 hour exercise and tire him out, he will come back home, and fall asleep like a baby. I love modern's society tendency to attach the word "syndrome" to justify shit. "oh, my kid cant pay attention - he must have ADD syndrome. Lets pop some pills in him." :1orglaugh |
I don't even know if it's a "disease"... definitely it's a condition though, and it doesn't exist only until you actually start having it... then your tune changes.
I've had a touch of it a few times, thankfully not often. It's this weird feeling you get in your legs that, if you don't flex your leg muscles or move them in some way, the sensation drives you crazy. So you move your legs in order to make that feeling go away, but as soon as you stop flexing your legs the senation comes back. I always thought that it was because you didn't exercise your muscles enough that day and your system is trying to work off the tension... but apparently there are other causes according to doctors. All I know is when you're trying to sleep and this restless leg thing sets in, it's no fun. |
Fibromyalgia isn't a fake disease - my sister has it, she's a tough girl and has never been a complainer about anything in her life and now I see the pain and problems she has - when she first told me she had been diagnosed with fibromyalgia I researched it and felt the same way - just because medical science doesn't really have a good handle on certain things/diseases doesn't mean it doesn't exist. so at present it's one of those disorders that gets diagnosed by the symptoms the patient reports and physical examination - fibromyalgia is a group of symptoms that get labelled with the name. I'm sure like all diseases/disorders that can't be diagnosed definitively by a lab test or seen on an x-ray that the diagnosis is misplaced on many people.

I thought I was getting that. But in reality it was a side effect of my allergy medicine taken too close to bed time. Once I moved around my medicine taking time, end of problem.
:2 cents: |
my girl has it ,can be annoying when sleeping

Nope, alot of us get it on the days that we work out hard |

My mother has it too. |

Neither RLS nor fibro are "fake" diseases <sigh> - easy to say if you don't know anyone who has them.
Requip works well for RLS. |
