Hackers Crack Itunes gift card algorithm
Hackers have cracked the algorithm that Apple uses to generate its gift cards for iTunes and a key generator has been made for it. Chinese site Taobao is selling them for less than 3% of their face value.
Chinese market researcher Outdustry has confirmed that the fake gift cards do indeed work by buying one and were able to add it to an iTunes account. You can get $200 cards for about US$2.60. How Apple is going to address this will be troublesome. Changing the algorithm that generates the cards could render existing cards as unusable. Rendering all cards that are for sale and have been sold useless could be a huge marketing blunder for Apple, even if they promise to let people exchange them for new ones at a retail store. http://www.tweaktown.com/news/11634/...workindex.html |
Power to the chinese people!

How ballsy to just set up shop and start selling them like that. The chinese do not seem too worried about US or even international law.

go china hackers...
So $100 spent would net you close to $8k in iTunes cash.
Haha, +1 for the hackers
damn, and there's like no way for itunes to stop this. they'd have to cancel all cards under that algorithm which would hurt millions of actual customers.
the hackers were funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation lol

And does iTunes require you to verify your identity to spend a gift card there? Apple is screwed unless they start tracking codes that have been sold, and that could take a long time to implement since retail stores will have to communicate with Apple when the cards are sold. |
so its free to get music now online?

Then again maybe we should just applaud china for using a creative means to recoup some of the trillions we owe them, hehe :error |
How will they tell the real ones apart from the fake ones since they are both generated?
