BW overage charges?

i know Bandwidth charges have come down quite a bit in past few years. What is the current going rate per mbit on quality hosting? (fully managed servers)

DarkJedi 03-11-2009 07:42 AM

Techimedia had my account set up at $20 per mbit

MojoHost has it set up at $12

:2 cents:

Price typically comes down with volume as well.

DrChango 03-11-2009 08:31 AM

I got a friend who just started at a new hosting outfit. I'll hit him up and see what they're offering (he hooked up my martial arts instructor with a sweet deal on the school's website).

nolongerexists 03-11-2009 08:35 AM

Please tell company, prices and amount of bw. I might use it against my hosting company to get prices a little lower ;-)

The Ghost 03-11-2009 08:45 AM

Keep 'em coming guys.

so $60 per mBit is a bit high?

OMFG ................. it is INSANELY high. if your current host is sticking you with $60 per mbit overages I would VERY unhappy with them.

there is no host so good that they should be over 20 per mbit these days. unless they're dropping by your house to shovel snow and cut the lawn as well.

The Ghost 03-11-2009 10:05 AM

Is anyone paying MORE than $60 per mbit?

HorseShit 03-11-2009 10:11 AM

why would anyone in their right mind pay more?

You can get 3-6$ with volume

fuck yeah... i had a host overcharge me like that once, we settled for pennies on the dollar, i moved my shit the next day or so

Wiredoctor 03-11-2009 03:28 PM

With most hosts the overage price will be determined by other factors like is it Quality BW or a mixture of Junk low end crap, what your base package is, like server prices, bandwidth ect.... I am with Techiemedia and actually I dont even have a commit, they charge me for actual usage and that amount is on a sliding scale so the more I use the less it costs, and do around 135 megs.:pimp

That host is an Idiot, and the next in line at the bankruptcy court right behind Alpha Red ...LOL some people will never learn that selling any product whether it be BW or a loaf of bread at cost or close to it, is a very unsucessful business model. OK move along now.:2 cents::2 cents:

mmcfadden 03-11-2009 03:48 PM

i'm paying .40 cents per gig overage... guess that's way too much as well

The trick with these 4 buck a meg deals is that you are paying for 100 megs but you cant do 100 megs on the capped 100 meg port, maybe 95 ish megs at best. Also most people will do maybe 50 of the megs thus your now paying 8 bucks a meg or maybe you only do 25 megs so now 12 bucks a meg, and so on......:2 cents::2 cents: also it's typically junk quality BW like nlayer, cogent, wvfiber or some other mix of peered off low grade junk.:2 cents:

Is this thread about BW or the penalty for going over?
I pay $150/month for 3mbps, and $25 for every mbps I go over. its a managed server though, 24 hour support
