Jan 01: 208 pounds - March 11: 188 pounds

Finally made competition weight today at 188 pounds. Down from 208 at the begining of the year after bulking up. Virtually no muscle lost, I'm just as strong today as I was then.

Diet: No simple carbs, low fats, low glycemic complex carbs and lean proteins.

Sweet potato, Yam, Oatmeal, Turkey, Tuna, Salmon, lean Beef, Lettuce, etc.

I drank diet pop like a fiend too. LOL @ anti aspartame fags that claim it makes you fat.

stickyfingerz 03-11-2009 10:51 AM

I've dropped 30lbs since Nov. Congrats on the slimming. :thumbsup

I was right around 185 pounds when I started in June of last year. Now I'm back around the same weight but much stronger and even less body fat. Shit's harder at 35 years old that's for fucking certain. I'd kill for a pizza. :(

james_clickmemedia 03-11-2009 10:52 AM

congrats, i'm down about 8lbs since christmas. Another 10-12lbs to go. Seems I always put on weight during the winter.

BradM 03-11-2009 10:53 AM

You're old and weak. I could fight you.

j/k congrats on the loss. I am doing alright as well. Could always do more but I am lazy by nature and I just absolutely HATE cardio.

I know you dont want to hear this, but have you thought of a vegan pizza? Its not nearly as bad for you, soy cheese, bread, tomatoes, i eat pizza all the time, just not the kind you order.

we make our own dough from scratch, our own sauce, put whatever veggie toppings i want, usually brocolli, green peppers, jalapenos etc...

pls dont flame me lol i just dont see how eating veg pizza would be bad for you...

Tom_PM 03-11-2009 10:55 AM

Why cant you have pizza? Slice it small as hell. Or make it with wheat flour or whatever?

I've been doing wheat pasta for a long time. It's pretty good depending on the type. Fuscilli is a good shape because it wont fall apart and holds lots of whatever sauce. Some shapes just break apart though and dont "bite" well.

Im still not quite as ripped as I want yet, but that is a daily challenge. I just turned 36 on the 6th so I feel ya there, but honestly probably in my best shape since high school.

I dropped nearly 70 pounds in three months back when I was 21...I had to work twice as hard to drop 40 pounds in four months two years ago. Don't know how you pulled that off at 35 in so little time without losing muscle mass in the process. You're a damn Iron Man. Go out there and kick some ass, bro!

BradM 03-11-2009 10:58 AM

BTW I make pizza constantly. It doesn't help overall but I won't give it up since I love it so much.

I make it with a whole wheat pita, stuff the inside with some low fat mozza. Then I cover a small layer on top with some tomato sauce (fresh is better with very minimal preservatives) and a bit more cheese and fresh pineapple.

It really makes my week when I do it and it's like < 400 cals. I used to eat it all the time when I was on Atkins, helped me drop +100lb

seeric 03-11-2009 10:58 AM

i've gained 16 lbs in 4 months. all muscle. almost same diet. i will eat carbs and a little fat from time to time, just so my body doesn't forget how to process it, but for the most part i'm eating like i was training. i started at 132lbs, 5'8" and now roughly 150lbs. i'll stop at 160. should look damn good by then.

good for you man. one thing i can say about the diet you're on, because i do it is that it really makes your brain quick and thinking is faster. i don't feel slow or lethargic anymore.

MetaMan 03-11-2009 10:59 AM

6'3 225 and i am a beast. WOOT

BradM 03-11-2009 11:03 AM

I spend around 4 hours a day training right now, plus 2 more hours driving. Webmaster work on top of that and I'm too busy to be making pizza. I also don't like soy at all never eat the shit. :)

Also any white flour and even most wheat flour has too high of a gylcemic rating. In other words, it turns to sugar too quickly in the blood stream. Spikes in blood sugar cause insulin reactions. Insulin is one of the most anabolic substances in the body and it inhibits fat burning.

Incidentally, this is why right after you work out (within 30 minutes) you should have a glass of pure fruit juice or some other simple carb. The sugar will all be processed and thus not turned to fat plus the anabolic action of the insulin will promote muscle growth.

WarChild 03-11-2009 11:09 AM

One more note on Aspartame. Up to 25% of people experience some sort of insulin response to Aspartame. If you were to experience a strong response and consume lots of it all the time, I guess it could make you fatter. At very least it would make burning fat a lot harder. I don't experience an insulin response from it.

All in all, sucrolose is better.

It's only 20 pounds, not 35. 35 in that short of time would be a lot more muscle loss.

I drink way to much Diet soda myself. Tried to cut down but love the taste. The anti-aspartame crowd goes by the theory that the aspartame makes you crave sweets and regular sugar. Thus if you drink diet coke you'll end up having more deserts, candy etc. and gain weight. If you have willpower or if you're on a diet that's not an issue and it doesnt make you gain weight on it's own. The jury is still out on the cancer part though. :winkwink:

I do not tolerate sucralose well at all. I avoid both it and Aspartame. Xylitol and regular ole sugar FTW :2 cents:

Bryan G 03-11-2009 11:47 AM

Everything in moderation folks,

I still drink and eat shit on the weekends, but during the week my diet is strick. I also workout like a mofo as well, mon-fri.

Weekends are FUN time!

However No Red Meat EVER!! just lean chicken, turkey and Fish.

seeric 03-11-2009 11:54 AM

actually i shouldnt say no fat on my gain. i haven't gone in to do BMI or anything, but i surely don't see any fat, i'm sure its there though. probably not much of the 16 lbs is fat, maybe 15% of it max.

ah well, yeah good pizza takes time, its all about the dough. We use bread machine, and it still takes hours for a good pizza, but we do it while we work... gotta cook one way or the other.

i stay away from refined sugar so i dont really worry about the sugar in the kiwis i eat.

Hey everyone, hope I can get some advice here seeing that I have all you hard working mofos in here...

Personally I always thought that people should use their floor and walls before they ever pick up a weight, or buy some equipment. If you can't motivate yourself to hit the floor, how you gonna hit the gym or the weights? The floor is right there.. Always. Plus people to go to jail all the time and come out ripped, from doing pushups, situps, pullups, etc in their cell.

So I did some basic research on calisthenics, and it looks good.. Lots of boxers do pretty much nothing but that, and you can see what kind of shape they're in.

I found this Bartendaz group that's from NY who have lots of interest in their program, they go to schools and teach kids etc.. Basically just bringing some style and focus to calisthenics, mostly using pullup bars.

Any thoughts on this kind of workout for me? I'm 5'11", 160, skinny and flabby. :)

Phoenix 03-11-2009 12:06 PM

Join a body building forum, (bodybuilding.com & steroid.com). Steroid.com actually has a lot of good information, people look at the name and think it's just for juicers.

Eat right, lift heavy and stick with it consistently. Get someone to workout with and join a gym. I was 6'1" 150lbs about 3 years ago, now I'm around 218lbs @ about 13-14% BF. Wish I was leaner, but it's hard work.

Most cheese has a lot of fat, I guess if use swiss cheese and wheat flour it would be ok. Still probably not the best choice if you're on a strict diet. More than 50g complex carbs in one meal is too many, it would be hard to figure out the macros eating pizza.

Sosa 03-11-2009 12:25 PM

Congrats :) I've put back on 20 bad lbs after dropping 75-80 when I was on Atkins back in the day. Took three years to put the 20 lbs on but I need to get back down to where I was for sure.

pornguy 03-11-2009 12:25 PM

Yeah I am not getting back to working on the weight loss thing as well.

fris 03-11-2009 12:31 PM

congrats, ive lost 75lbs myself
