Need a Tempe Mission Palms Room for the Phoenix Forum?

I am considering staying off site again this year. They already charged my credit card a total of $916.89 for the mandatory three night stay, Oct 2, 3 & 4. There may be other options for you folks who like to travel on the cheap like myself. But if any of you ballers want to lock in a room at the main hotel for a modest premium, I think I can transfer my room over to someone and get a full refund if I call up the hotel. But I am also looking for some extra to cover the cost of my r.t. flight this year- $325 via Paypal, plus the buyer putting the room on their own c.c.. If no takers, no worries, I am already committed to going and will just use the room myself.

Sorry, I meant April 2, 3 and 4.

baddog 03-12-2009 03:55 PM

I know people looking for a room. You want the cost of the room plus $325?

HorseShit 03-12-2009 04:02 PM

It's only one room that I have. A little profiteering in order to to get my flight paid for is the only reason to offer it up at all.

Good thinking.

Leave it to ingenuity Gunn. :winkwink:

Honez 03-12-2009 04:36 PM

Good luck in getting rid of it Jim :) See ya there!

fuzebox 03-12-2009 05:30 PM

I don't see anything wrong with flipping a room for a profit, given how valuable and hard to get they are. :2 cents:

Vexes 03-12-2009 05:39 PM

hotel room arbitrage.
new business model for porn.

well, a couple of years ago this would have been gone in a sec, in todays climate not so sure. Best of luck with it:2 cents:

Sly 03-12-2009 06:03 PM

That breaks down to about 100 extra dollars per day to stay on site... I could see that being worth it. If I were going, something like that would be worth the money. Trucking back and forth multiple times a day is a pain in the ass for anyone... regardless if it's only "five minutes". Think of all the cab fare and time that blows.

Throw in some private toe sucking, and foot fucking, and you have yourself a deal.

I would of given ya mine before I gave it up if I knew you still needed one.

PS I highly disagree with flipping the room for profit. True there is nothing technically wrong with it but it does encourage others to try to do this each year and book more rooms than they actually need in hopes of profiting off of others.

Sly 03-12-2009 06:52 PM

I'm sure there will be a no scalping rule next year. :-)

Better be. Hard enough as it is to get a room without having people buying rooms they are only planning on selling for profit.

I can not remember anyone ever doing this. I have heard of people offering to pay more, but never someone demanding more.

Barefootsies 03-12-2009 07:02 PM

I am not saying it is right or wrong, but I am going to say that knowing Jim like I do. I do not think this was his intention to scalp shit.

Some of these responses make it sound like this was his initial intention. I think that he just registered like he always does annually, and then opted to save $500.00 or whatever going for a room down the way (like both he, and I opted for in Vegas).

Just wanted to throw in my :2 cents:. Jim is a good guy and I think he's being generalized unfairly.

yeah I saw ur thread when it was already too late, no biggie :) We r driving so I will have a car to go back n forth from whatever crappy hotel we end up in to the convention. I'd LIKE a room, but why would anybody pay more than the cost of the room? That's craziness.

He may not have had the initial intention to do so but it does encourage others to consider it especially if he is successful at it. I do really dislike the idea just because of how damn hard it is to come by a room anyways and in my case it would of been mandatory.

I know a few years ago I did resell my room for a small profit when I had to cancel. I just never added my own value. I made a thread with the notice and asked for best offer - starting at what it cost me and set a fast timeline on it (like 1 day I think). If I recall I ended up letting it go for a tiny bit over transfer fee's and that honestly what I was most interested in covering.

This year when I had to cancel I figured I would just call the hotel and let them give to next in line (which would of been fair) but well the deadline already past to cancel and they said they would charge me the 1 nights stay if I did cancel (yet I know it would be booked in moments - sort of sleazy of them). Asked if I could transfer it and then did so with first person to respond at cost.

The same reason people pay for bottled water... convenience.

I feel you DAWG. I agree with you how hard it is to get one as-is.

As I said. I do not think Jim is profiteering. I think he is just trying to be thrifty. I guess it is one of those things where you kinda have to know Jim personally. However, I can see where, 'addressing the issue on the whole', where you are coming from.

I remember that you did that and it actually gave me the idea today. I registered the one room I have with intentions of using it since I had such a good time last year. And I will probably end up staying in it this year unless someone wants it badly enough to make me give up my convenience in exchange for covering the cost of my flight. Everyone else was welcome to set their alarm and sit by the phone on hold for fifty-five minutes during the initial registration frenzy just like I did or do so next year if you missed out this time.

Sly 03-12-2009 07:32 PM

That's a good point Jim. It does take work getting rooms.

If you need a hotel room I have one at The Courtyard down the street from The Palms. I was going to use it as a drunken crash room for Greg and Bruce, but you can have it if you need it. :winkwink:
