Account/Password sharing for paid sites
 

How do you deal with people who share their login credentials with their friends (i.e. one guy gets a subscription, and all of his friends access your content without paying you for their own accounts)

Custom solutions may also help you. But you need a programmer.

Some gateways have also their own password sharing protection. PlugN'Pay has such a program. I have not used them for a long time though.

Strongbox/ProxyPass. It's pointless to even attempt to homebrew when it's just cheaper (and in many cases, more reliable) to pay the $xxx or $xx/mo.

I have to second that. We've spent may years and hundreds of hours developing the
very best system we can and we continue to make constant improvements as we watch
what the bad guys are trying to do. I know other companies have also spent some significant
development time to provide good systems. When you can buy a top notch system for $150
I just don't see the logic in either spending $50,000 to try to develop something similar
yourself or spending a few hundred to write a custom piece of crap. $150 to buy the industry
standard, Strongbox, is less than it would cost you to develop even a really piss poor
custom solution.

Disclaimer - I said that some other companies have also invested significantly in research
development. I should acknowledge that there are also several systems out there for sale,
including some very well known ones, that haven't had any significant updates in ten years
or more, so you're better off with nothing than buying those.

Phantom Frog Does It All
 

Tried most of the systems out there, but for the past 2 years, I've had Phantom Frog in place and 99% of my worries are over! There's no need for me to go anywhere else, because password traders accounts are immediately blocked by an automatic password change. You're sent an email to let you know that the account has been compromised and you can monitor the account for repeated abuse. Should an account be hacked and that member's password changed, he can just go to an online form and retrieve a new password without any intervention from the webmaster. Sweet!
