Truvia is made from the Stevia plant that people in South America have been using as a sweetener for a long time. :thumbsup

I'm looking forward to Pepsi made with stevia. The fake sweeteners give me headaches and I know the high fructose corn syrup is unhealthy.

Splenda is the yellow packet ... and yes it is safe if you don't over consume it...

joshll 03-15-2009 02:10 PM

Stir up abit of cocaine in there and its good.

Elli 03-15-2009 02:26 PM

I used to think so, but now not so much. I use Stevia extract now (not "truvia" or other commercial version) and feel better for it.

woj 03-15-2009 02:27 PM

All those fake sweeteners taste like shit :2 cents:

Buy Your Poison - Aspartame, Diet Soda, Splenda

"U.S. District Court Judge Dale S. Fischer has set 6 January 2009 as the starting date for a potentially landmark civil suit against Johnson & Johnson over its alleged false advertising of the artificial sweetener Splenda. The central issue before the court is whether the advertising of Splenda -- a man-made chemical sweetener containing chlorine -- makes consumers believe it is a natural product, by using tag lines like "Made from sugar, so it tastes like sugar," and similar advertising."

Reak AGV 03-15-2009 02:31 PM

Not sure if its safe or not

Ethersync 03-15-2009 02:37 PM

I don't touch Splenda. Use Xylitol.

Of course splenda isn't really sugar it doesn't even taste like it. I'm pretty sure it says artificial on the bag too. And of course that website is going to say something bad about it, it's a "natural health" website. When's the last time you read a drug or something artificial was good for you or not bad for you from a source like that?

In fact most things in general are bad you. The more you read and find out everything around you is probably killing you or bad for you. But as far as artificial sweetners splenda is probably the safest there is. I believe it's been proven that the truvia/stevia stuff is toxic, so that "natural" sweetner is probably just as bad or worse than splenda.

GirlBri 03-15-2009 07:22 PM

really, right now, splenda is the best thing healthwise for you to put in your food. and no the sugar splenda isn't used in enbalming fluid. some of the same chemicals are. HELL some of the shit in the gum you chew, and the drinks you drink are the same chemicals used in rat posion

tony286 03-15-2009 07:44 PM

its really scary.

PSSuperstars 03-15-2009 07:53 PM

It's not been out long enough or tested long enough for long term effects to be known...

I bet it's going to end up being worse than aspartame.

riddler 03-15-2009 07:55 PM

way to start a troll thread :( you know its gonna be a flame war of idiots claiming artificial sweetner is deadly..

nekrom 03-15-2009 07:58 PM

There has been over 50 years of research done into the health effects of natural sugar. I wouldn't touch a chemical product until there has been an equal time span.

exactly.. oh, but sugar is bad.. Ya, so I guess taking a fake man made version of sugar is gonna be so much healthier. lol REAL sugar is sure as hell "healthier" than the man made chemical "sugar" crap they sell.

Good thing splenda doesn't contain aspartame.

The problem is probably we arent supposed to eat sugar at all. think about it the caveman ate raw veggies and meat. That what are bodies are designed for.

Azoy? 03-15-2009 08:59 PM

Just go bare and drink with no sugars or sweeteners.
I drink my espresso, tea, and regular coffee with no sugar or anything artificial.
At first it was bitter but after a few times you get used to it and actually enjoy the taste of the coffee bean or tea it self.
If you go back and try sugar after wards the drink tastes like syrup.
Trust me you will enjoy it much more without any sweet added to it.

Then why do we have taste bud receptors that really like sweet (sugars)?
Plus the whole caveman thing is just plain silly. For one we lived very short and unhealthy lives. Then it is widely accepted that we became smarter and developed are minds thanks to adding in complex proteins and such - beyond raw veggies and meat. Forget about the whole issue that someone can pick up a piece of sugar cane, chew it and get sugar which sort of goes along with your statement of eating raw veggies and all but with sugar.

Is that a trick question since people add sugars, spices, and sometimes even starches to the insides of apple pie. Plus then the crust usually contains a fat or eek a trans fat if you like the old school shortening methods. Not to mention the evil salt.
