How much does HD content sell for, and how much do girls get?

Someone mentioned earlier that girls get around $200/scene - is that fairly accurate? But is that really HOT girls - i.e. ones that would stand out from the many porn sites out there already? How much do the really good ones cost, the ones that'll make visitors say "wow... NICE!" And as the topic says, how much is content sellable for? I.e. a POV scene with a really hot girl shot in HD? So maybe $1200: $400 to the girl and $800 to the maker/seller? Thanks guys.

After Shock Media 03-16-2009 07:01 PM

Um.. Rarely does the seller make more than the girl on exclusive shoots. I also have not seen many hot girls doing 200.00 POV scenes - so I can not say that is accurate. In your 1200.00 scenario it would be more likely the girl got 800.00 or more.

So that's when the seller basically sells it to a site? That'd be $800+ to the girl and about as much for the seller then?

Also, what if the seller has his own site? What's it cost to start one (how many scenes do you need), and how long does it take to make a profit? Give me a basic breakdown please. :)

You are getting into questions that are akin to how long is a piece of string.
Some people can start a site with 15-20 scenes plus possibly some filler content.
How long it takes to profit has way to many factors. If you have access to the traffic and can already swing the joins then you could make your money back quickly - if you have no traffic or way to generate joins from day one it could take months or even never make your money back.

So when you say "some people" can start a site with 15-20 scenes.. are you saying that most would need more? How many's the average?

Also, what do you mean by "access to the traffic"? As in to buy, or already own sites that can send people there at no extra cost?

Sorry, I know my questions are really vague and that's (obviously lol) because I'm really new. Can you please elaborate a little more on all this so that I can put it together in my mind and make sense of how it all works (i.e. start-up cost, ways to get traffic from scratch, cost of said traffic, how much to charge people, how long to get money back, how much profit to expect with regular updates, etc). THANKS!!

Not trying to be vague in the answers but well they just are as different people have different business plans and ways they run a site. I personally would never start with just 15-20 scenes. I also would not base my revenue model on upselling the customer or focusing on other matters beyond getting them to rebill.
Having your own internal traffic would be best and of course would not cost you extra money. Buying joins is possible but like with everything it has its own risks. Just the idea of putting up a site and expecting it to turn a profit are pretty much long gone. It takes a lot of hardwork typically.

Crap just saw what I quoted with you has changed. So few areas will not be answered right now. Am really certain you need to do a lot more reading on this before you dump even a dollar.

INever 03-16-2009 08:16 PM

This would be a good newbie Q&A question in the section where other fucking webmasters help.

To have your own site you usually also need traffic, web design, marketing, networking, back-linking, SEO, payment processor, etc, among other things.

If you want to just sell the content, the going rate is what the peeps on this site and others like it will pay after they've seen some samples.

Well, I definitely don't have my own traffic, so how much work would it take / how difficult would it be to get people to sign up? What's involved in generating traffic for free, and how do you pay others to get people to sign up for you, how much does it cost, and what are the risks? Also, when you say that the idea of putting up a site and expecting it to make a profit is long gone, do you mean that I'm pretty much fucked, or that I shouldn't expect it to make money with zero effort? I'm ok with the latter, but how much work does it take? Please clue me in on what's involved since you clearly know your way around here pretty well.

Way too many vague questions.

INever is correct. I have a similar tutorial I posted at another board going over some of this shit in detail. Including clip stores, pay sites, traffic, processing and the rest. Basically giving you "food for thought" before investing your money or lighting it on fire.

That said, there is no 'standard' for content, what is sells for, or what girls are paid.

It varies per company, per girls, per shoot from what I have seen.

:2 cents:

LMAO, I think I just know the web design portion. Surely payment processing can't be too hard. Now how do you handle the traffic issue?

Basically, filming and design is minor, without traffic or a means to generate traffic its just one of 15 billion pages on the net.

Filming her suck your cock is the easy part (Does it really need to be said?), without any type of research or education in how things work your success or failure is allready carved in stone.

Whichever road you chose to go down it will require hard work, nothing comes easy, lots of it is simple, but never easy.

Northman 03-22-2009 12:47 PM

So on a purely content selling level, would you say it's possible to pull in $10k/mo profit doing it? I.e. $800 to the girl / $800 to the seller x 12 scenes / mo?

Socks 03-22-2009 01:04 PM

This guy sure is getting a lot of help.. what's going on here?

Jay-Rock 03-22-2009 01:09 PM

I have shot alot of POV go to http://jayrockhardcore.com if you want hot girls you are going to have to pay them $800-$1000 a scene. $800 for the seller is ok but if he is setting up the shoot, getting the location, and editing it as a finished product you should expect to pay a little more. To get really hot girls you are looking at $1700-$2000 a scene for PRO AMATEUR type shoots ex. http://jayspov.com

You can get shit done cheaper but don't expect too much you usually get what you pay for in this business. :2 cents::2 cents:

aniloscash 03-22-2009 03:42 PM

2 dozen episodes might be enough to launch the site but you really need to have a pipeline of updates too. But like other people posts it depends on your business model. In a lot of cases there is more value in updates to provide to your affiliates to promote you and less value to updates for rebills. But updates serve for both options.

Zorgman 03-22-2009 08:14 PM

Why not shoot the content and sell as non exclusive?

If shooting in the US the girls can be shot for as low as $600.00 this is going around an agent. The guys vary anywhere from $200.00 to $500.00. If the producer shoots at his own location and he is the camera man, photographer and the girl comes in make up, he could sell the scene and make anywhere from $200.00 to $300.00 on your estimate of $1200.00 per scene. Scenes shot outside the US can cost as little as $500.00 US to shoot.

this is really low budget stuff.. and a margin of 200-300 for outlaying 1000 or more and often waiting up to 1 month to get paid. plus the cost of equipment, insurance, business overhead expenses, office rent etc etc. making 200 on a shoot is not making coin for sure.

content production and sales 101 to be continued...

Thanks for taking the time to help. So looking at your sites, the hottest girls cost about $1700-2000 and the more average ones were $800-1000? Is this direct or through an agent?

Ok, so what I'm really trying to understand is this: I have a location, high-end HD camera, lights, recording equipment, editing equipment and the ability to use all this and create a very high quality finished product. If I get a really hot girl for say $1750, how much can I sell a scene like this for as an exclusive? How about non-exclusive, and with non-exclusive, to how many sellers? Also, what if I make a dozen scenes and create a website: will the thing actually make money, and how much of it do I have to pay for the traffic?

Thank you once again.

Through an agent in Los Angeles you can get most girls for $1,000 day rate for a sex scene, solo and some photo sets. If you are shooting high end and your shit is good quality an exclusive scene will go between $1,500 and $2,500. (Don't forget you gotta pay the male talent too)

Thanks very much for your reply.

I'm actually in Canada, and I know a lot of girls with whom I can work directly. How much do you think I'd end up paying for hot girls (8.5-9.5 out of 10) using this approach?

So where do I sell my high-end content to get "$1500-2500" a scene? Right here? I'd have to do it online because like I said earlier, I'm in Canada. Also, would I make more money selling non-exclusive as someone suggested?

Also, what about websites? Can I get 12 girls or so and just make one? If the quality of the content, design, service, etc is good, will it likely make more money than if I just sell the scenes? And what do I have to pay to get the traffic, is it a per-subscription fee to people or a % of the revenue? How much?

Once again, thanks and I really appreciate everyone's help. You guys have been a great help.

He is laughing even though I said rarely. There are a few shooters who are making more than the talent is per scene all of the time. However I guess I am wrong in that the majority of people who sell content do not. Even if the majority sells it very at budget prices and such. Nowhere did I say all, there are people like him, Dean, and such (fuck name dropping) that do - they just are not the majority of shooters.

Guessing Aaron just wants to be associated with everyone else.

jtpornstar 05-27-2009 11:14 PM

Hmmm...lots of 101 questions here.
Some points:
First off, "hotness" is in the eye of the beholder. Often the "girl-next-door" look will sell 1000% better.
Keep in mind that a lot of content producers are really hurting at the moment, what with the economic downturn coupled with the huge amount of free content available ie don't give up your day job.
I shoot out of Central Europe, where the price of everything is at least 50% cheaper (more if I pay the models in Euros).
A vanilla sight will struggle to make coin (unless you can find a creative way to upsell/cheat/steal from the sign up).
Most peeps here are affiliates rather than site owners simply due to the start up and running cost.
You really need to have your traffic in place BEFORE embarking on a site.
To understand anything...you'll need to do the do. Put up some money, shoot some shit and see if you're any good (porn is not fashion or still life). Start a blog. You know, work!
Read and learn...then read and learn some more.
For some tonto reason, everyone (the public) seems to be under the impression that us porn people are still raking it in despite the economic crisis. They think of porn as being easy money and fail-proof. I'm forever being asked to set some plonker up with a web site, as they imagine this'll be an easy way out of their shitty situation. Wrong!

I think you got a lot of answers for too vague questions. I'll just say that $200 per girl will be hard in US or Europe, unless we're talking of meth heads. And that might be costing you a lot more since those aren't known for being on time at the right place
