One giant fucking argument?

It seems like the only reason it exists is so that people can drive by and anonymously flame authors.
Now you don't have to go to a message board to be a troll, you can flame anyone who's ever published anything it seems.

it is very evident in the comments on news sites as well. lots of hate out there.

On the other hand, it does a great job at bringing people with similar interests together (and allows those people to share items relevant to those interests with each other). Also, the concept of user submitted content is very powerful if managed right.

think it's funny when people bitch here about the pointlessness of twitter or facebook while half the threads here are of the "i had eggs for breakfast" variety.

Perhaps...but web 2.0 doesn't mean only sites like twitter and facebook....I'm referring to the interactivity of the web as a whole.

If I want a 15 year old's opinion on something I'll look at his myspace page or hang out on a pop music message board.

Now I've got his opinion thrown in my face when I read the news, watch a video, read a sports story....just about anything.
Everyone has to write a dissertation in response to the "idiot" who wrote whatever article...and they think that people want to read it.

The level of narcissism that web 2.0 has brought out of society is incredible.
