Twitter - the new Facebook?
Not using it, but looking at the recent GFY twitter threads, I'd say so...
|
tweet my balls
|
Twitter is gay. Facebook is gay. Bebo is gay. Myspace is gay.
See the trend here ?? |
If you use Twitter in the right way it actually is a good conversion tool. Don't knock it till you try it with your site for a month...

This video hilariously sums up Twitter:

The key to using twitter is to get people to follow you and not use a bot, because they will disable your account. One good way is to add users from a particular porn star's twitter... wait a few days for them to follow you, and then stop following them. They will still follow you but since you can only add 2000 people at a time you need to do it this way. After a while you will have2-3k followers and you can post your site updates on it.
We have seen it do very well for our sites... in traffic and conversions... |
It doesn't work for holding a mass conversation unless you are using something to thread out the tweets when you have a massive amount of followers.
One thing I really like about twitter is how it integrates with a lot of the other social mediums out there. Ping.fm for example - posts your tweets to facebook, your blog, myspace, whatever, from one spot. Now that nearly every site wants to know "what are you doing?" Twitter (and some associated tools) can be a great way for mass updates like that. |
I wouldn't say so, but I have a lot of friends who no longer user Facebook and only use Twitter. Facebook was fun when it was just colleges.

Twitter is a less expansive social platform than Facebook.. Honestly most people who use one use both, so just getting into both places is good.
That aside, I posted about twitter a few years back on gfy and everyone was like WTF is that, how is that gonna be useful to us, and generally thought I was mental. :P |
