have to remove the istockphoto watermarks from the flash and add/fix a few minor things, hopefill out within the next few days or week

long time in the making, let me know what you guys think

Reak AGV 03-19-2009 09:08 AM

Couldn't you just buy the photo from Istockphoto.com instead of taking it with its watermark on? (1th image in the flash) Other than that looks pretty clean and solid.

:) that was the final mock up of the flash our designer just submitted to us, we put it up on the site to see how it looks, we are going to change one of the pics out and then buy the images and finalize the flash.

did not want to buy/pay for pics we may not be using in the final version

thanks for the feedback and posts :), greatly appreciated, anything people think we should change or improve?

PSD CSS XHTML 03-19-2009 10:16 AM

It looks clean and professional except for the flash, and not the istock issue. It just doesn't go. It looks like an after thought. Color is really ugly too. The rest of the design is very nice though, IMHO.

webair 03-19-2009 10:18 AM

I like it very solid and clean.

Nice work

mrshine 03-19-2009 10:19 AM

thats what i thought too when i looked at it, not sure i care much for the maroon background, i think white may go better, may have to look at that again. thanks for bring that up, its a good point

I can understand that man, good work keep it up :)

It almost looks great.. The other guy is right the Flash is lame..

I notice when I tilt my monitor I can see more design detail around the flash area.. Some blue and a drop shadow..

This extra detail is causing a lot of extra dead space on the page.. But the problem is I can only see the blue and black drop shadows when I tilt my monitor.. So the colors and detail are completely washed out.. Making the flash look more like a design after thought..

I am on 2 24" Apple displays for my mac and 2 24" samsung displays for my PC.. All calibrated by professional hardware..

Naturally on a MAC the colors should seem washed out.. But not this much..

So add that extra washed out detail and improperly aligned divs and you have A LOT of wasted white space on the front page..

Fix the colors and align the main copy to the top of the boxes on the right.. atm the text is aligned to the bottom of those boxes.. Doesn't look tight..

Also if you are going to have company logos on your frontpage.. Scale them so they don't look so distorted.. Even try and get vector..

thank you for your very thorough evaluation and analysis, you have a much better eye than i do :)

ill give the flash a harder look and completely agree on the logos

thanks again for taking your time to post this

My post was completely anal. You don't need to make any changes to the site it looks great as it is. You could take a look at the site on a few monitors and resolutions to decide if you want to make adjustments or not...

The flash would look better if it was slightly a rectangle..

Ozarkz, thats why we posted this thread. The kudos are very nice to hear, but we need some critical comments and suggestions so we can find holes/problems/possible improvements and fix them before full release :)

gfy is normally pretty good for that

thanks everybody, and thanks again Ozarkz

XPays 03-19-2009 01:23 PM

looks typical, boring and cookie cutter to me. lacks originality.

XPays 03-19-2009 01:25 PM

btw i would fix it by submitting a contest at 99designs.com and seeing what random designers would do to make the site more 3 dimensional/exciting.

Ozarkz 03-19-2009 01:37 PM

Ok a few comments about the flash..

It feels kind of slow.. Find out if your designer is around 30fps and tell him you want it to POP more..

I think the font is bad. The leading and kerning is wayy off.. With a font like that I like to use it in small doses.. have the text the surfer needs to read the standard font and special or header text as that more interesting font..

I personally dislike how Flash renders text.. So for small stuff like banners where the quality of the type is really important I like to export the text from photoshop as transparent pngs.

It's kind of hard to read... too much is moving behind and around the text... You don't need that bar behind the text moving to make it look interesting..

The actual animation of the text the faster it is the more "POP" it has the better it will look.. All of the text sort of drags on and off the screen right now..

Having an image like that as a background is really not current to today's design trends and hard to do without it looking like it was designed in 1999.. The full color images are good to display ideas of your industry and customer service but it makes reading that text harder..

I think the Burgundy or whatever color works with the blue tho..

These are just my anal opinions and your designer is going to be really bitter at you for coming back to him with changes like this..

99designs has been amazing for us. there are a lot of talented designers there who think outside the box.

I'm mean come on now, give your guy the $3 to buy the istock while he's working! What kind of margins are you on over there!
