not sure what you[re referring to, but I have some type-in domains and they're doing much worse than in the past conversions wise
and it's also true that the marketing/developers teams changed all the time on sex.com
what would you do with it, if you got your hands on it now? just curious

i meant the traffic itself and its value. the fact that it has XX,XXX-XXX,XXX typins a day doesn't mean its quality traffic. its very scattered across the globe and a lot of korean, chinese, turkish, indian etc... so you can't just throw something up or redirect it and expect it to convert and make money. it would make far more going to a parked page before doing something like that. and that is a very much a fact that anyone with a large domain portfolio here would agree with.
you might have "typein" domains... but they aren't one word generic dictionary words which more often than not, have very poor quality typein traffic which is why so many are parked to begin with... or worse, poor quality traffic and also many possible meanings of the word. i mean.. its not the same as people tying in "iwantteenporn.com"... someone typing in "mobilephone.com" is going almost useless... where typing in BlackBerryPearl.com is pretty specific and what the user is interested in/looking for. a typin for that domain could be a kid and his friends typing it in to see whats there while snickering and giggling.... it could be someone looking for sex stories.. info about abstinence, birth control or whatever.
furthermore, a person in Turkey is far less likely to type in "iwantteenporn.com" than they are "sex.com"... so you get a better geographical breakdown on the traffic and a higher likelyhood of someone actually looking for that exact thing... vs trying to entertain themselves by typing in the one of the 10 English words they know.
just type "sex" in googles keyword tool... then tell me what someone who types "sex.com" is looking for.
there is a reason so many one word dictionary domains are parked rather than redirected.
:2 cents:
what would i do? i would be realistic about its traffic. i would be realistic about the fact that you have to start from the ground up and build something of actual value. i would take a long hard look at "sex..." searched phrases and be forced to fully come to grips with the fact that people typing "sex.com" into their browser are either looking for porn or educational materials or sex in the city or whatever.
then i would start building something of value for the long term. it would start out ugly and awkward and weird like webcams.com did for example and keep building until i've started hitting my initial traffic and revenue goals and then take a long, hard look at the data, review and plan forward.... adult dating + cams
