My cat is in surgery.... :(

Jordis, our Cream Extreme Face Persian had to be rushed in for surgery this morning. She started having her babies night before last and only had one and it didn't make it, so we thought she was done. We found her late last night and she wasn't doing so well and was having complications. It seemed she wasn't done with her babies, or so we thought. We rushed her into the Vet and her uterus had flipped inside out and they have her in surgery as we speak...... we do know they are going to Spay her, but past that, that's all we know.

The waiting on this is going to drive me out of my mind I think. :Oh crap

This is a pic of her in 2007 after her trimming and before her bath..

I know she is "just a cat" to some, but she is such a huge part of our family!!

My pets are a part of the family too.Hope your cat will be fine.Good luck!

directfiesta 03-20-2009 08:48 AM

My cat sends her good vibes to Jordis .... She will be back with you guys soon :2 cents:

Tam 03-20-2009 08:51 AM

Thanks guys...... I have been bawling like a damn baby since I dropped her off this morning.

She is at least in good hands. The last vet I had, his default response to everything was "put them down", and I couldn't go thru that again. Took her over to a new Vet and she is fighting for her as hard as if she was her own. So THAT helps. :)

SoloGirlsContent 03-20-2009 08:59 AM

I hope all goes well..sorry to hear this..I know you love your pets, they are like family to u

I've not had the best experiences with vets either. Glad to hear this one is taking a more personal interest.

Good luck to Jordis.

LadyMischief 03-20-2009 09:04 AM

Best wishes on your kitty Tam! Today is a good day, and it will be a good one for your furry little family member as well! Blessings hun!

Good luck to Jordis.

We have had nothing but hell with them for years.... and the last one, he just said "well we can try and fix her, it'll cost you this amount but we're not very optimistic about it" and I asked him what HE would do, he said he'd put them down. So being a professional I trusted him, and we lost two dogs we later found out could have been saved. Which makes me sick at my stomach.

When I took her in this morning, I asked her what SHE would do, and without even a hint of hesitation, she said "I would do anything I could to save her if she were mine" so then I knew Jordis was in good hands. It's the little things, like she didn't even worry about her gloves, she just grabbed her with her bare hands and went to work on her. She is calling me and keeping me informed and all of it.

I think I am done with Cat Breeding, my h eart just can't take it. So I just have a bunch of very high end PETS from here on out!! :upsidedow

I love cats. Best wishes to her!

Tam 03-20-2009 10:33 AM

The Vet just called. I love how she calls you personally, not an Assistant or anything, that's so awesome.

Anyway, Jordis is fine and came thru the surgery like a little trooper. She had to be spayed, which is fine. They put her uterus back in her body and fixed that and she is fine as wine now. She gets to come home tomorrow. They were bragging on how sweet she was, so she is Jordis again. ;)

I am so happy about this, we've been scared to tears all damn day!!

Thanks for all of your kind thoughts and wishes, I know it had to mean something. So Thank YOU! :thumbsup

Glad to hear you kitty is doing better. Best wishes for her recovery.

cykoe6 03-20-2009 11:25 AM

I am so glad to hear your kitty was ok. I understand how upsetting stuff like that can be. My little baby is going to be spayed on Monday and I am a nervous wreck. :(

Mrs F.U.B.A.R. 03-20-2009 11:26 AM

glad to hear that she is doing much better now, I know what a relief that must be :)
Yes the attitude of the vet makes all the difference.... I know with ours she would tell me straight what kind of an outcome we could expect and would do everything possible for our pets, so when it actually came time to say enough and goodbye I knew she was being honest about what was best for them as opposed to what would make me feel better :thumbsup

PersianKitty 03-20-2009 11:28 AM

I'm glad things turned out okay.

I know how you feel about some vets. I've been lucky that where I've lived the past 12 years there's a clinic that specializes in cats only. With my horde there's almost always something going on beside the fact that I dealt a few years ago with my three oldest kitties passing over the span of 3 years. This vet group knows that I have enough knowledge to be very up front with me. I also have been hands on with some procedures with a few of my cats that do better with me around then with just techs and the vet.

I'll give all of mine extra hugs tonight thinking of your furbaby. Although my blue persian has been gone for 3 years now, each of these guys have a special way of carving their own spots in our hearts.

PK

From "female to female," having your "uterus flipped inside out" sounds like a VERY painful experience! I'm glad the meow meow is doing better.

Oh boy, I can't even fathom what kind of pain she was in, but you know? In all of it, she never once growled, hissed or anything to anyone. not even the Vet. And she was never lethargic at all, she is just that way. When she got stressed, she'd bite her own foot, not hiss or scratch at any of us.

EricMathison 03-20-2009 12:26 PM

Best of luck. Beautiful cat.

I am no cat guru by no stretch of the word, but I have learned and studied a great deal since having these guys. The first litter she had, I was terrified because she wasn't doing very well.... I called a vet and asked what to do and they walked me thru what to do and how to help her birth her babies and from then on, when they would have babies, myself or my 15 yr old son or both would sit with them and help until they were finished. Some we would have to break that membrane and get them breathing and some were fine..... but wow, that was a learning experience all on it's own.

This lady treated me like I was a human and not a paycheck and she treated my cat as such too. The one thing that impressed me was that she cared enough to ask about her, what she was scared of and if she was touchy in any place over another and so on... and she let me hold her while she examined her..... which helped Jordis a great deal. The last Vet would send us out of the room, which didn't set well with me at all...

My little Dilute Calico just had a Blue Persian in January right before our bad ice storm and that little guy survived that, I think he could about survive anything. He was only a couple of weeks old when we had to deal with all that cold and shit..... he is a character and a half in such a small little package. lol

I haven't "lost" one yet, but the mere thought of losing her crushed me, so I can only imagine how you feel. I am so sorry for your losses, it has to be so tough.

That is great news. There is nothing wrong with loving your pet. Both of my dogs are family members and I would do anything for them. It also sounds like you have found a wonderful vet. :winkwink:

wonderful news about your beloved family member, so glad she is ok.

Did you have to shave your pussy before the procedure?

Sorry ... someone had to ask! :)

Smokey was the best (the Blue Persian). He and the two oldest were all above 17 years old when they passed. They lived good long lives and gave my family much enjoyment and unconditional love. Heck, the first one that passed was almost 20 and I'd gotten her before my sons were born. She was my kid as much as they were.

Smokey was a total lap cat/people cat. Get out a hand vacuum and he'd be right there to get vacuumed. He loved stuff like that. I was lucky to have a good persian. I've seen some that are total stuck up snobbykitties.

I've done the breeder thing too, but only one litter back about 10 years ago. To get my female Pixie Bob I had to agree have a litter with the male of the breeder's choice and give her the best female kitten back. Luckily the whole thing with smoothly and momma cat knew by instinct what to do. She has 6 and we were prepared to end up losing a couple, but they all survived. I wasn't meant to be a breeder though... I kept 4 of the 6 babies who are all 10 years old now.

brassmonkey 03-20-2009 12:40 PM

aint no way i would pay for animal surgery

Tam 03-20-2009 12:41 PM

This is my little Blue Persian..... and his mom, she is a bit bitchy because I scared the hell out of her when I walked up to take this pic. I think she wanted to cut me. lol

Anyway, this is Spurtz........ named because when he was first learning to spit, he didn't spit, he kind of spurted.... lmao Messa is the mom, my Dilute Calico

One secret that will help you find a good Vet. Always, always, always get a female Vet.

That's how I am and why I have so many, I couldn't part with them when I got them. I didn't even let Jordis have a little until she was nearly 2, and all of them went to family and good friends I KNEW would take care of them. I didn't have the heart to sell them to god knows who or send them to god knows what. just couldn't do it. This was Jordis' last litter anyway. The last one was supposed to be the last, she had a rough time with that one too and it passed away, so we were on our way to get her fixed when she got pregnant.

I am just not cut out for this, if something happens to them, I am too heartbroken to handle it, and I can't bear to give or sell them to someone, like I said, that I don't know. SO..... THAT experiment died right in the water.... none of that for me. And after today, ALL of them are taking their turns at the Vet to get fixed, i cannot put any of them or my family thru anymore of this, it just hurt and was too damn scarey.

I want a Dominant Calico Persian so bad, I'll just have to go out and BUY one....... :)

Awww.. what a cutie.. Good face on him. I don't like real extreme faces. Often leads to breathing problems.

Of course Smokey is my avatar.
The larger picture is about 15 years old.. so it's not the best quality.

I said that very same thing before I got these babies and they got to be such a part of our family. I was never really attached enough to an animal to do that, but these guys... wow, I can't imagine telling a Vet, "put them down".... dammit, I have a heart, don't I? This sucks. lol

Warchild, I believe you... totally. The last 3 we had were men and they were more into the money than into the safety and wellbeing of my animals. My cats were just a paycheck to them.

He is beautiful, wow.... and he looks a LOT like our Sully, a Cream Dollfaced....... Jordis' very first litter, come to think of it... he is massive and such a teddybear. This was my gift to my oldest and her husband, he is sweet like his mom.

So glad to hear the good news :)
Caring and competent vets are like gold - you're indeed fortunate to have found someone who will treat your babies like their own.
Please give Jordis hugs and scratches for me tonight :)

Thanks hon... and yes I know. I used to hate cats so bad, thought they were untrainable rude assholes...... but then I grew up and realized they were if I took the time and I love them. I have 10 cats, all of them know their names, not one gets on a counter and not one is rude... ok, well one of them is, but it's because she is a spoiled little brat..... she's a Seal Point Himalayan and thinks she owns the joint.. but we still love her in spite of her feeling like she owns the joint. lol
