OOPSY ... Google pulls some street images

Seems like some people dont like the new google street view over here in the UK

Google has removed dozens of photos from its new UK Street View service.

The street-mapping facility launched amid a fanfare of publicity but now the firm has been forced to pull some of the images after complaints.

It is thought the pictures removed contained revealing images of homes, a man entering a London sex shop, people being arrested and a man being sick.

A spokesperson for Google told the BBC that anyone could have their images removed if they asked.

"We've got millions of images, so the percentage removed was very small," Google's Laura Scott told the BBC.

LOL we English people are very peculiar at times..well most of the time anyway

Something I dont understand is we have TV programs like police intercepters. They have cameras following the police when they are on duty. So many times I have heard people saying " stop filming me, you are not allowed to film me without out my consent" things like that . The police always say " We are allowed to film you as you are in a public place" When you follow the street views with google these are also on public streets..so whats the difference ?

One difference would be that google provides a very accurate location of the
images, including addresses.

And a house is not really a public property.

Hypothetical : I design a wild artistic house and sell pictures of it to make a living but
now google puts it online for everyone to download. I copyrighted my home design so
I actually do have a case(winning it is different, but I have one).

Further, police activity is public activity as all information pertaining to police
involvement is available to the public(freedom of information act).
Any information obtained by the police in the line of duty becomes evidence.
Evidence is owned by "The People" as in "People versus Mr. Crminal".

I've seen some google street level shots that I wouldn't like.

Also google may reveal things that the home owner themselves did not know.

For example : At 3pm for 15 minutes the angle of the sun lights the house from the back
such that the curtains can be seen thru almost like glass. I've seen this and also
happened to me in an apartment and the apartment manager had a talk with me. :1orglaugh

If you live in the UK and you've left you house in the last few years,
the ministry of love has more pictures of you than your mother ever
hoped to have.

I really doubt the Freedom of Information Act has any hold in the UK. :1orglaugh

I think it's because it's actually showing their homes, and their property.. not just public property, but private as well.. plus in such detail.

Crazy shit though.. big brother is watching that's for sure.
