This is a model that has been tried a few times and has not made it.. Third times a Charm?
|
people pay recurring on so many things adult is not unique for that.
|
I think that the pay per clip model is going to become much more popular over time while the monthly recurring and pay per minute become less popular. Surfers like paying one flat rate, like $3 or $5 for a short clip or $10 and up to $39.95 for a single fetish or special interest video that they cannot get anywhere else. No games, no recurring, they know exactly what they are purchasing and are satisfied with it. The title of the article referenced above is backwards for this reason in my opinion. The future *is* porn downloads, not memberships.

Yeah, yeah, yeah... I keep hearing this all the time from all the folks selling some sort of vod/ppv type service... If this is true then why is our recurring member site revenue climbing while our pay per view income is declining?

Pay per minute? Will be pay for nothing. payracy!

I think there's room for different models, not everyone wants the same thing, but VOD has definitely grown a LOT over the years.

BTW anyone ever tried "pay per bandwidth" model ? Like $10 per downloaded GB or something like that... |
Many of these "per minute" business models rely on the end-user having to top-up their accounts via credit card.
Phone per-minute billing (whereby access is granted to your members area for the time that they are connected to a premium number) is true per minute billing - here, the money gets paid to the company with whom the surfer already has a contractual relationship, namely their phone company... |

oh gee what a surprise, he's tooting the horn of what he's selling. well no shit most of his users go the PayPerMinute route, that's what you've branded and advertised yourself as. I wonder why McDonald's sells probably 1000 times more hamburgers than it does of any of the other food items it sells.
the clip stores' success disproves his point, tons of people want to download and keep their favorite porn. there are too many other factors going on to just say 'people don't want to pay a monthly subscription fee anymore'. There's a horrible economy out there and tube sites, direct download links on forums on file sharing hosts, torrents - those surfers aren't paying for Pay Per Minute either. it wouldn't surprise me if all these PPM VOD sites shave the numbers that producers get to see. Can a studio see the name of the customer who used some of their time viewing their movies? |
I agree with Jim about the clip download model gaining ground, but I don't think the website model will disappear either. And by the way, clips.com is our 2nd best clip distribution platform and our best affiliate program. I think the appeal to the surfer/ consumer is the flat rate they can choose and load into an account. The balance being left over for another time ...
May I ask, who and how was the rate of 10 cents/minute derived? It seems to be the industry standard. I think it is way too low. 25 to 35 cents per minute would fly no problem imo I say this because we have been selling "feeds" on a cam platform for 69 - 99 cents a minute since 1999. ( and we get 50% too! ) Still make a decent check every month after all these years. That's the main reason I have never been inclined to place our vidz at any of the ppm platforms. Taking 20% pmt from 10 cents a minute just doesn't really get me excited to submit my material. Hey Monica, can I get a solution with you guys that allows me to charge what I want per minute? |
Hey MRock - just sent you an email, we might be able to work something out ;)
|
This story is about 2 and half years old, how ever as some one who has been in the PPM market (all most all the major adult site uses the PPM software i wrote) , this model only works when you have a very large number of movies...we are talking 25K and up.
If you have a small library stick to membership / pay per view. Jay |
Vod is more consistent. Paysite revenue goes up and down but my vod money had been about same for 2 yrs. I usually convert at 1:30.

Fucking bunch of chicken little's. :disgust |
