Does it take 3 days to render a dvd in Vegas video?

I bought a dvd movie with content (Licensed to use it) and I opened up vegas video 7 and rendered the dvd at 526k, and let it run all night and woke up anf its like 30% done.
is this normal?
I just want content for websites, it doesnt have to be perfect. I thought this would take an hour.

is there a special setting for rendering for the web?

Sly 03-24-2009 02:27 PM

I'm new to the video editing stuff but 526k isn't even that good... it seems weird that it would take that long to render. What are your computer specs?

Either way, here is a bump.

that is crazy talk

MaDalton 03-24-2009 02:30 PM

no, absolutely not

you need to try another program. i use cleaner xl but thats a bit outdated and expensive by now. but i had quite good results with Xilisoft Video Converter Ultimate

Sounds like its time buy a new computer?

dyna mo 03-24-2009 02:33 PM

yes, in this case it will take 3 days, obviously.

Not enough info in the o.p to actually answer your question.

When I woke up I shut it off because I thought something was wrong and it was printing out for a movie screen or something.
So I did it again 5 hours 30 min elapsed, 4 hours 44 minutes to go.
The dvd has like 5 scenes on it. its going through the frames pretty quickly. I totally dont understand this.
I'm new to Vegas. I always used windows movie maker cuz it was easy. Vegas is complicated.

My computer processor is 2.53-GHz Pentium 4
I got 74 gigs of hd space free and 1.5 gigs of memory

Try a test render of a few mins of footage so you can tweak the settings if needed.

clickhappy 03-24-2009 02:54 PM

on the bottom right under the preview video it says:
project 320x240x32 30.00p
preview 320x240x32 30.00p
display 320x240x32

if that means anything

That's kind of an old computer to be editing videos with... my Core2Duo goes pretty fast. I just got a Core2Quad but I haven't used that yet for editing.

I font know what a prerender is.
I popped the dvd in.
l imported from dvd
and then I hit render and am saving it as a .wmv

Obviously I'm doing something wrong. Maybe Vegas is too powerful (bloated) for just the basic stuff I need. I think Sony Vegas is like using a canon to kill a fly lol

dirtysouth 03-24-2009 06:14 PM

Bump for you. Vegas user as well but I bought a new sys recently due to long render times. Might want to get some more horsepower.

dirtysouth 03-24-2009 06:15 PM

Render one individual scene and work from there.

clickhappy 03-24-2009 06:25 PM

I dont know how to render an individual scene, so Im rendering the whole thing. I own the whold dvd anyways so I guess its no big deal. I tried to cut the scene I want out and its difficult to do. In windows movie makes its very simple. With this I dont see any razorblade or anything to cut the clip with.

oh wellhopefully by the time I wake up tomorrow it'll be done

go into options then preferences. then click on video you will see dynamic ram preview set it to 64mb. if its set too high it fucks up render times. Also are you rendering to a different drive? If not it can slow it down a little and the system is a little old. But for what you are doing it shouldnt take 3 days
