Silly questions for Vista users

I just went over to Vista this weekend and I am still feeling my way around. I have figured most things out but there are a couple things that don't feel right yet. So, I figured I would ask those that use it.

Firstly, is there a way to make the windows explorer thing look more like it did in XP? I am hating it in Vista.

Secondly, when you are viewing a list of files is there a way to view thumbnails like you could in xp? The only option I am getting is to view icons and they are just that..icons and not thumbs.

Never change a winning team, switch back to XP :)

get used to explorer. I didn't like it at first, but as all things are, you get used to it. Now when I use my Xp machines occasionally, I hate the old explorer. Vista's version isn't bad at all, and has some nice features.

The only thing that annoys the shit out of me in explorer is the bug that doesn't keep windows view settings the same after you reload explorer. Let's say you have a folder you visit often, and you've set the top row to the attributes you like...date modified, size, type, etc. When you come back to that folder again, it'll be changed to some random mp3 related bullshit, like rating, genre, etc. Fucking annoying, but not a deal breaker.

You can set the view to thumbnails by right clicking in the white area.

I would highly recommend turning off UAC(User Account Control) which tries to throw up security roadblocks for every little thing you do. Just google "UAC vista turn off" and you'll get instructions.

Also, turn off Aero. It increases your performance, and causes less glitches with certain software.

Other than that its been great, and I don't see why all the haters.

Not going to happen. The 'lord of tech' in this house (ie hubby) decided it was time and it happened.

I have no view thumbnail option that I am seeing. When I right click in the white area I get under the 'view' option I get 'extra large icons, large icons, medium icons, small icons, list, detail and tiles'.

Am I not looking in the right place?

Argh! I have the same problem with the explorer. I live in Details view, and it keeps reverting to thumbnails because apparently Vista thinks photos should be viewed in thumbnail form.

Other than that, I love Vista. The search function rocks.

What he said !
Turn off the crappy UAC and right click view thumbs ! Its also worth going into the performance tab in settings and adjust that to best performance.
