Top English speaking countries in Europe?
Who can help me out here? Which European countries (outside of the UK) have the largest amount of English-speaking residents?
|
i would say germany first
|
I would imagine Russia.
|

|
Definately the Scandinavian countries.
Danish people have excellent capabilities in learning or speaking this language. |

Ireland most certainly has the highest % of English speakers.

I've never found many English speakers in Germany, but maybe they're like the French and just make out they cant understand you. Spain, Italy, Portugal not very many.. those damn lazy latins. Eastern/central Europe. wouldn't know. |
Holland (the Netherlands) for sure. Mostly southern part.

As fas as I know of only 2 such countries: UK and Ireland. :2 cents: |
Germans are generally not good at English. Danes and Swedes are somewhat better then Finns nad Norwegians at english and Icelandics I cant comment on.
|
of course Russia since you ask for "largest amount of English-speaking residents" and not percentage of population...scandinavian countries are tiny populationwise
|
Scandinavians. Eastern European and Southern Europeans are the worst.
Except maybe for the younger citizens. |
You're all wrong: Gibraltar.
|
Scandinavia + Netherlands = #1
Germany - west much better than the east, but DON'T rely on everyone talking English, especially if you plan to go East Central / Eastern Europe - you'll easily talk to someone in bigger cities, especially to younger people where there'll be a realistic chance they're more or less educated, but those, who're too lazy to absolve proper education most likely won't be able to speak shit anyway. Worst = France and Italy. You have a better chance talking to a dog than talking to most of the "average" residents there, and they will even get pissed you don't speak their language! |
