Doggie INCEST: Reading a purebreed pedigree can be disturbing
 

We've had our chihuahua for close to 4 years now but my wife only recently showed me our dog's pedigree papers. I was floored. Our dog's grandmother is also her great grandmother and there's at least 3 other incidences of inbreeding on both her dam and sires' lines.

I don't know about the "accepted practices" in dog breeding but doesn't this massive inbreeding/incest FUCK UP a dog's genes? No wonder many breeds of dogs have 'breed-specific' ailments like hip dysplasia (german shepherds) and other ailments. What's the breeder standards in the US? If this isn't discouraged, it should be. It harms the dogs.

yeah I hate seeing people breed dogs just for the money. I have two purebreds, one is from a family dog litter and the other was from some old lady breeder. I didn't send in either of their AKC papers because I refuse to give them my money. My dogs are both fixed.

the next dog I get will be from a shelter though, they break my heart little homeless dogs.
