Why I will never again buy a mac.
I recently invested my money into a dell vostro 1510, and after running vista for a week I was actually impressed with the performance of the laptop. I went ahead and installed OSX on the laptop and sure enough after a little tweaking everything works great.
So in conclusion I will never buy a mac again. :pimp |
lol at running OSX on dell
|
I have a quadcore HP with OSX installed. Cost me $699 and runs just as fast and is just as reliable as the $3k+ Mac Pro desktop sitting next to it.
|
interesting....
Vista is the big problem not the hardware so makes perfect sense to install OSX on a clone. One thing that could be an issue is support for the hardware in your dell box. I was under the impression that the reason the mac's were so reliable was 1) osx is built on top of unix 2) mac controls the hardware & software so you know there are going to be no compatibility issues... Am I wrong? |

You can spec out the parts exactly and build the same machine for about 1/3 the price. Here's a company who's selling it preinstalled on their computers and have so far managed to stay in business even with Apple breathing down their necks. They have machines from $549. http://psystar.com |
exactly why i hate on people who buy a mac... yes OSX is good but so is ubuntu.
You're retarded to pay apple's ransom price on a system. If you're a fanboy of the software just buy a clone for seriously 1/3 the price worst case half the price |
we have an imac at the office... its basically collecting dust
|
my vista runs smooth, heh prolly wrong thread)))

Most of the PC repairs I bring in only have 512Mb of RAM though and its INSANE that even when I have cheap 512Mb sticks of RAM they won't py $25 installed to upgrade to 1Gb RAM and at least have a halfway usable system! I've been thinking about changing my rates to simply charge more if they don't have above a certain amount of RAM LOL or just upgrade the sytem while its here and pull my RAM back out when I'm done. |
personally, I don't like macs too :) a mac is for me like a car driven by someone else where I can't change anything... I prefer my own car with a freedom of ride

Umm, if you are running OS X on a Mac you are neither on a Mac nor did you buy anything from Apple. lol
|
Yea a Mac is still just normal computer parts.. Nothing separates them from those used in a PC. The OS is what makes a Mac so much better than a PC.
Then again one thing to consider.. Probably the biggest reason OSX is so much more stable than windows, is because Apple creates their own drivers and does a lot of R&D making the drivers work well with specific components. When you start using other parts, you run the risk of not getting the same stability. While on one hand I do like to build my own systems, however on the other hand, I understand why OSX is stable and that's because Apple does what it does and uses specific components. Another thing to consider, is that most of these OSX hacks for windows end up losing some functionality on the PC. |

These are not OSX hacks for Windows. These computers are running full versions of OSX, they don't even have Windows anywhere on the HDD. They get auto updates right from Apple. You can not tell the difference between the Mac running OSX or the HP sitting right next to it running the same system. |
Vista rules..
fuck the haters. |

You won't buy a Mac but you bought a DELL.. I build my own. |
And lets not forget Joel.. Did you pay for that copy of OSX you are running?
Have you EVER owned a mac in the first place? :1orglaugh |
Ubuntu FTW.

I fucking hate macs.
I hate them for the same reason I hate the yankees. Their fans are annoying as fuck. |
great story
|
I'm definitely going back to mac. Hadn't thought of throwing OSX on here... Going to do some research to see how it's done.

You can install leopard from the original retail os x disk on your pc using boot 123 metod and get the updates directly from apple no problem :)
Everything works fine, using it for seven months on my old celeron 336 2.8 GHz and 512 mb of ram runs very fast and no problems whatsoever :thumbsup |
im running vista and like every upadate i get a bluescreen error shit
|
xp pro does it all. i just like macbook design.
|
People have the dumbest reasons for not buying a mac.
Admit it.. You can't afford it. :1orglaugh |
to me time is money so I would never go back to using a pc again. I have saved so much money over using a pc as my mac does not go wrong. We have 3 pcs in the office and there is always issues that effect productivity. The last one that went wrong was 5 months old, unbelievable..

When I was in university I used to tinker with the insides of my 486 DX with 33mb of ram and a 120mb hd, however that was when I had way more time to do such things...
