Yeah. And the fact they have alot of human rights abuses, bad workers rights etc etc.

To be honest i don't know what Obama is thinking, who does he think he is having any business in European affairs?

Trax 04-08-2009 05:18 AM

fuck turkey... they dont belong in the EU. if obama wants them to join anything he should make turkey the 51st state of the US but shut up about turkey becoming part of the EU.

Cfr markets islam and sharia and values muslim citizens higher than non-muslims(easier to keep stupid, and accepts low degrees of freedom). Obama is told to market this stuff, and is just doing his job(like any other president.) Way I see it they're building a huge conflict, a la communism vs. west, but this time muslims vs. west. The muslims only have a chance if they "trojan horse" millions of muslims into the EU.

There can be no doubt that Obama s an idiot. If the EU commissars try to shove the entry of Turkey into the EU down the throats of the EU populace it will certainly spell the end of the EU itself as that would obviously be a bridge too far.

I almost hope they try it so we can see the end of the bureaucratic undemocratic nightmare that the EU has become.

nation-x 04-08-2009 06:49 AM

Umm... this is a US policy... Bush supported it as well

I have nothing against Turkey but as the UK is in the EU (even if i don't want it to be), Turkey joining the EU would mean thousands of turkish bums and immigrants into our country....

u-Bob 04-08-2009 10:26 AM

Obama should mind his own business.

What if the EU decided Cuba should join the USA?

The European Union can't decide that Cuba should join the United States anymore than the United States can decide that Turkey should join the European Union. It doesn't mean that the European Union can't have and voice their opinions, which they do.

It's political posturing. Back scratching.

_Richard_ 04-08-2009 10:54 AM

political posturing for sure, but i don't see why turkey shouldn't be in the EU

would assume that value of the base of operations there would exceed racism, but hey

Yeah as far as I'm aware (and I could be wrong, it's been a few years since I was last checking on it) if a country is in the EU then anyone else who is classified as a citizen of an EU country can come and go and live and work in those countries if they desire, without visas and whatnot.

ie: I'm British by birth and Britain is part of the EU, if I decided I wanted to go and live in Spain or Greece or Italy and work there, then as a citizen of an EU country I can do so (as long as I have an EU passport I believe)

If Turkey joined the EU then that would open that option up to the Turks as well

Whoa hold on a second. I can't believe you enlightened Europeans, and especially Buzzy the magnificent, don't want more of the kind, peaceful and hard working Muslim brotherhood to join your great union. Think of the contributions a country like Turkey can make in terms of science, education, medicine and art just to name a few!

Right, and he is saying that he doesn't want that because the "cheaper labor" will come in and "take jobs" and money. That is the common argument. Basically the poor countries get to "rape" the rich countries... which is kind of backwards as to how it's been for millenniums, LOL. Maybe it's some kind of payback, LOL.

That was hundreds of years ago. I don't have anything against Muslims, it's not about Muslims anyway...Turkey is pretty much secular now. The EU hit the low of the low when they started letting countries like Romania in....lmao...cmon now.

Sounds pretty interesting but I don't agree. I'd say the poor countries get to "rape" the weak countries. These countries may have a "powerful" army (NATO etc) but they are really defenseless against "barbarian countries".

But this is not about a "payback" for crusades etc. For example, here in Russia we have a lot of foreign immigrants (Russian is the second country in the world by the count of foreign immigrants after the USA), however we have not been "raped" by them. All these people, including Turkeys are doing only short-working and low-paid jobs here.

Turkey is not part of the EU for a bunch of reasons, mostly because of their dispute with Greece over partial occupation of the island of Cyprus, and their stance on capital punishment. To be admitted into the EU you can't have capital punishment.

Drake 04-08-2009 03:22 PM

Obama, don't be a turkey

CE_Ardy 04-08-2009 04:01 PM

I am a turk and I dont' care what the opinions on turkey entering the E.U are, it will happen eventually down the road, not because of a desire but a necessity. Currently there are millions of turks spread throughout Europe fulfilling jobs that a lot of the europeans won't touch. In germany alone there is 3 million turks, not a small number by any means. The nation of turkey is the biggest middle eastern ally to EU and the United states, it is a democracy, one which can be an example for other countries in the middle east to follow.

In the high season, Turkey is flooded with tourists from every single part of europe, it is the biggest tourist destination for all of europe due to the cheaper cost and exotic beautiful locations, turks welcome these people with open arms.

I just don't see why people are so close minded about letting them in, how many former soviet union countries have become part of the EU? Countries that are half as developed as turkey politically and structurally? Either way it doesn't bother me, just don't like to see our people being bad mouthed by people that have never experienced it first hand.

What really chaps my ass is that although we are not considered a european country or officially as part of the EU, we still have to play in the european grouping for the world cup games.....if we are going to be treated as dirt, why can't we play against the other garbage teams from the middle east? :)

Billionaire 04-08-2009 04:14 PM

It is thanksfivvings already ruprick?

ThumbLord 04-08-2009 04:46 PM

CE_Ardy it will not happen trust me.
The Greek will never allow it and there are more countries that will fight for it.

CORRECT, I wondered who was going to state these facts, Nicosia the only divided walled city left, and the invasion of the Turks...... to the Island of Cyprus:(
