My 2Cents on tubes & making money...
I feel like something is wrong if I come to this board and dont see at least 1 "fuck the tubes!" thread above the fold.
So, i figured id toss in my :2 cents: on tube sites. With the huge publicity of youtube, it was only a matter of time before 10 porn tubes came out of the woodwork. I dont think it was their intention to have hundreds of stolen videos, but they probably had to keep up with the competition when other tubes started to upload their own.
Believe me, i am 110% against illegal tube sites. However, do you think these massive sites would continue to operate if they were in the hole every month? Im sure they realize that they are not going to be bought up by Google for a few million dollars, so their only choice is to try and sell to big sponsors.
Either way, if they are self operating they are more than likely not making their money from posting banner ads for membership sites since they seem to be giving away full length movies right?
Where is the money coming from then? my guess is two places. first, is selling ad space. there is always people with money trying to brand themselves or their company, and what better way to do it for probably relatively cheap on a HUGE tube site. but the ad buyers are not buying ads for porn sites, they are buying for dating sites. why? well, would you go to a food bank to sell Olive Garden gift cards? probably not and they know people viewing porn for free are not going to want to pay for it, so offer another service like a dating site pays off, or at least appears to. they could probably plaster ads for Verizon FiOS or credit cards and still makes sales.
So besides selling ads, another source of revenue is probably email marketing to their surfers. most of these sites require that you register with them to post comments or view large screen videos. an effective email marketing campaign will get good results, and they know this, why else would they want your info?
Well, if they are not selling ad space or spamming the hell out of their surfers, maybe they have a never ending supply of money from hopeful VC's hoping to sell their tubesite to Yahoo :1orglaugh
In any case, I think tubes are going to be here to stay and we have to try and battle against them by taking their traffic, their organic rankings for "free porn" etc. The time of when you only needed about $10 bucks to setup an adult site business are coming to an end. You need to be able to compete with these sites and offer the visitor something worth while or they are going to go right to the next tube site
just my :2 cents: :winkwink:
