Anyone ever looking to invest in a mainstream movie project?

I have a friend who made a comedy a few years ago and ended up winning like 3 awards and went to the Sundance film festival and all that stuff but quickly learned that comedies need some kind of star. He was told to try doing a horror movie which you don't need to find big stars for.

Anyways the just finished the trailer and are now looking for investors to finish the movie.

I know nothing about this industry but I get it you show what the movie will be and get people on board to finance the rest of it. The trailer only cost them $200 in costumes and props but the rest will be alot more.

I just thought I would post on here to see if anyone was looking for some outside business opportunities.

Here is the trailer. Make sure to click the HD button.

Crowbar Movie Trailer

Thanks everyone

That is a good looking trailer.

About 10 years ago I was really into movies and took some classes and even moved to LA to write. Sold a few scripts to small companies, but got frustrated with the industry.

I think he is on the right track though. All the classes I took said the same thing about movie types. They said horror movies have a built in audience and they don't need stars in them to get deals. If you can get one, great, but you don't need one as long as the movie is good.

When it comes to raising money that is the hard part. It is mostly why I got out of it because I sucked at raising money and it seems like you spend about 20% of your time actually creating something and about 80% of the time trying to sell it.

I wish them luck. For $200 they put something very good looking together. If they can make a movie with that kind fo feel I think they have a decent chance at success with it.

Hey I see your in Portland. The guys that did this are in Eugene. One of the guys is from a band I used to promote about 10 years ago around there.

I agree I think they did a god job on the very small budget and if they can find some money they might have something pretty decent.

Thanks for the input.

A buddy of mine raised $1 million dollars here locally to fund a full length feature. His best friend is the director.

They've got some recognizable actors and did a great job.

Here's the trailer. They're hoping to get a wide release sometime this year.

I do recognize a few people in that one. It would probably be alot easier to sell with those people in it.

What was the name of their band. Back in the early 90's I wrote for a music magazine and interviewed a lot of bands from the area and I'm curious if I have heard of them.

No he was in "Bethany Sin" which turned into "Sik9", Then Played in "Moth" which turned into 'Prodd".

He mostly produces now days with 36 Crazyfists and Northwest Royale.

I sugest looking into people from sleeping pictures.. They get money directly from huge end directers and poducers.. Even bill gates has put money on a few movies for them..

If you can find them they will help.. mostly horror films to.. We call them tree movies when the killer has a mask on or a deformed face in any way..

Your guy had a mask so they whould probably invest a bit..

I would be interested in possibly funding the movie venture.
Please have any and all info emailed to me at [email protected]

Thanks.

Thanks.

I sent him your email so he can send you the information for the film.

I can also get you his number if you'd like.

And thanks MindWaste I have him checking on Sleeping Pictures also.

I appreciate all the help. All this is way out of the spectrum of anything I have knowledge about so I was hoping there were a few on here with some experience or input.
Thanks... Mitch

I have looked and looked for my friend has been searching for anything called "Sleeping Pictures" and can't find anything regarding that name except some band in the UK.

Is that the right name or do you have any other info to look up for them?
Thanks

Cool. I think those bands came along a little bit after I was out of the industry and kind of lost touch with the local scene. I was around the scene in the early 90's when the big local acts were Hazel, The Dharma Bums (then Wilson's next band Pilot), Elliot Smith, Everclear, Sweaty Nipples and smaller acts like Guilt Trip, Twist of Fate and Thirty Ought Six. There was a band from Eugene I once interviewed called The Betmars, but they didn't seem to do much so I don't know what ever happened to them.

paytonrain 04-10-2009 05:55 PM

Sweaty Nipples got me started in the industry up there years ago and got me in that little circle with the Cherry Poppin Daddies, Everclear, Pond and a few bands in Eugene like Jollymon, Henry's Child and Floater who is still around and doing great.
