Yay I got my first hatemail! How should I respond to this guy?
 

My site was free for a year and now i started charging for some of the more popular features.
this email is from a member, this is what he wrote:

fuck you ! you are an asshole for all of a sudden wanting me to pay for features on this site that i've been getting for free for the last year ! what kind of shit is that ??!! fuck u & fuck your site ! i'll never be using it again !! as a matter of fact i hope it tanks ! so thanks for nothing u stupid useless son of a bitch !

Its pretty funny. Most of you have better responses than I can think up. So how would you respond?

ahhh... I used to get fan mail every day when my site was free... read something like "dude, i wanted to write you and let you know that you are the best fuckin thing that hit the internet..."

that did change when I made it a paysite... now I don't get any more thank you emails :(

teh ghey, I don't know what you offer but i'll tell you this... when my site was free it made me about 200 dollars a month... I have been charging now and it is making over 8K per month

Seriously... there are people that think everything in life should be free. There is nothing you can do with them. No use arguing either.

It's like when you post job ads and people call you up arguing about the ad saying you aren't paying enough. WTF? People are crazy and unrealistic.

I just remembered this... shortly after turning vstrip to a paysite I got an email "I pay for my internet service... why should I now pay for your site"...

i never responded

When heavy.com went to a paysite format many years ago I was pissed.

(I am pretty sure they dropped the whole paysite idea as of today)

i would say fuck off also ... if you are running free site, it is the worst thing to make it payed ... if you want to make money, put there more ads, but never make it payed. now, if the guy is pissed and you dont know who it was, just write "sorry i dont remember you, people who talked to me when site was free have still free access. lurkers as you have to pay as you got year of pleasure for free and you didnt know how to say thanks" ... end of story :)

I have noticed from a few small group sites l run that when you change them from free to pay it really causes mayhem :( no matter how small the charge ! .

Maybe thats why a lot of the social networking sites such as Facebook,Twitter and even Craigs List are reluctant to try even a minimal fee ?

From my small set up some left,some complained but at the end of the day now it at least has paying members.

no matter what you say to the guy who sent you the hatemail it sounds like his mind is made up and isn't going to buy membership, so I wouldn't respond. If you do, it just starts a dialogue where he's going to repond to your email, and soon you are spending your time arguing with a retard who makes you no $.. ya know? :)
