The pirate was onboard the USS Bainbridge negotiating. Glad to see Richard Phillips OK though.

Seems like the operation was a success which is good news.

Only downside I can see is the pirates have been very peaceful. They have held hostages for months and once released, the hostages were scared, but never mistreated. This Captain even tried to escape and he was not killed. I hope after this operation the pirates don't become more violent when they have been pretty peaceful in the past and have only wanted money.

The reason the ships don't use security or fight back is because they don't want to escalate things in fear it will cause loss of life. Up until now that has worked. I hope this doesn't escalate things.

There were no other options here, but sometimes things have unforeseen consequences.

mmm this is exactly what all these analysts are talking about... and it may seem as tho as if the killing of these pirates might make things more violent cause these pirates may now try to avoid a stand off like the one they had with this captured capt and instead just kill the entire fleet, steal what they want and then disappear ...

I hope that is not the case but these people live in a country that is literally very close to one of the hells described in the Divine Comedy (Dante A.) .. so they don't have much to loose. Lets hope they get scared after these turn of events......

Nice work by the Navy Seals. The only solution to the piracy is to eliminate the pirates or make it so dangerous the rewards don't outweigh the risk. This and the French action are a good start.

Notice the difference in the first time a American crew was captured. Unlike all the other crews, the American crew fought off the pirates, then the Military came in and fucked up the pirates.

Stealing the ship does little for them, they can't sell it and it's easily track able.. No one is going to pay a ransom for a ship. They pay ransoms to get the crews back. The pirates keep doing what they are doing because people keep paying the ransoms.

In fact Obama was part of the navy seal team that rescued the captain. The navy seal would have gone in earlier but had to wait for Obama to get dropped off.

I've been following this story all week and I love the outcome. I don't know if the pirates will escalate their actions because of this. The reason they didn't kill the captain when he tried to escape is because they knew without him they had absolutely nothing. No one cares if they steal a lifeboat and without a hostage they were as good as dead.

Fuck the Somali pirates... it's time to step up and take them out.
