If the sites were any good, they wouldn't need to "cold call" affiliates...:2 cents:

Why not? You think because you put out some good sites everybody on the web just flocks to them? lol

Take our program for example. We don't have a million affiliates, we are always recruiting. And the people who join are shocked by how well we convert.

I just better stop ICQing people. :)

Killswitch - BANNED FOR LIFE 04-13-2009 10:57 AM

My bad bra, I won't do it anymore!

fujiko 04-13-2009 10:58 AM

there is nothing wrong with it.. this is a business, .. u should be flattered.. show some love back. aint so hard.

MichaelP 04-13-2009 11:02 AM

Ok so I guess I better not ICQ you :)

HorseShit 04-13-2009 11:05 AM

I just find it more annoying than anything to randomly get ICQs through out the day from reps asking me if I'll send them some traffic, sometimes when I already do even

Si 04-13-2009 11:10 AM

I drop sponsors who keep sending me spam.

If I want to get a promo tool or anything i'll go to your site.

Thank you.

Loch 04-13-2009 11:12 AM

Hey calm down, icq me and lets talk about it :)

That isn't true at all. There is no possible way for every affiliate to know every site that is converting good throughout all of the programs.

Random "cold calls" such as "hey you should promote us" are not good because 1) they don't work and 2) they are not targeted.

An educated targeted contact such as "hi I came across your lesbian blog and I wanted to tell you about Her First Lesbian Sex, it is one of our best converting sites right now and I think it would be perfect for your traffic. I would love to help you promote this site so if there is anything you need at all please let me know and I would be happy to put together some content packs for your use." That is a good contact because 1) it is a targeted contact in which the affiliate should see some actual value in the contact and 2) the sales rep is willing to back up their claims by actually doing some of the initial work for the affiliate to give them a taste of what's going on with no real loss to them.

That is mostly what I'm talking about here

Ozarkz 04-13-2009 11:14 AM

Cold calls and reaching out to your clients is the #1 job of any sales person in any industry.

because unless it's done correctly it will do more harm than good, this thread is a good example of this... for every affiliate that signups, you will get 10 that will get turned off and probably never promote the program in question...

PowerCum 04-13-2009 11:20 AM

It's all about how do they present themselves.

"Hi / Hello" --> Ignored
"Are you there? / Do you have a minute?" --> Ignored

"Hello, I am XXX and I work for YYY affiliate program. I think that we could do good business if you promote ZZZ site of ours on your network" --> Has my attention at least to see what can be done in the future.

I had once some affiliate manager call me to the office and say something like "Hello, who am I speaking to?" I was like... wtf??? you call my phne and you don't fucking know who are you speaking to or whom should you speak to?
No wonder they went out of business like 6 months after that.

polish_aristocrat 04-13-2009 11:34 AM

GFY ego 101

BradM 04-13-2009 11:36 AM

Agreed 100%. I can't tell you how many poor buggers "hi, hello, hey bro" me over the years who get the silent treatment. You're a fucking SALES rep. SELL me.

I never really understood why people ignore ICQ's because of how they are presented... So what if someone says "Hey", I find it easier to read when I'm busy and reply back with "What can I help you with?" and be polite instead of attempting to read 3 paragraphs that they write because they are afraid you're gonna ignore them if they say "hey".

Yeh, I agree. I always reply with "hi how can I help you?" It has paid off more often than not... the only ones I really ignore all the random Russian ones. :-)

Sarah_Jayne 04-13-2009 11:39 AM

And then in the other thread people complain that sponsors don't go *to* the affiliates. I hit people up on icq from time to time but it is always after having looked for something specific that I think will work with that person. All part of the job.

Exactly... I've made more money from being polite and replying anyways, than if I would of ignored them. I don't know how many people have hit me up about my sologirlindex script with "hey" and ended up buying it for 10 minutes of talking. Now imagine if I just ignored them.

This is a messenger people, not a phone, and they are potential customers, or associates not telemarketers.

If a I hit up a sponsor with "hey" and they ignored me because I didn't give them my autobiography in my first message, than I'd just ditch them and go with one of the other 500 that offer the same thing.

Because you're a baby girl. :thumbsup

RyuLion 04-13-2009 11:52 AM

I've been saying this since day 1 on GFY!

contact me = Kick in da Balls!

pornguy 04-13-2009 12:02 PM

Then you are missing out on some good stuff.

Typically when someone askes for something like a specific niche or what not and we have something that matches, I post it, and then attempt to contact. I know that some people post and then dont get back to it for days some times. But often If I take that extra step I can either add them to my list of affiliates, or know that what we had was not what they wanted, and then move on.

It also adds a lot more of a personal touch then just posting a link.

That is different that what I'm talking about, if I post interest in a niche then I of course don't mind a sponsor rep hitting me up after.

Today for instance some fuck has contact me 10 times saying hi, hi, hi, are you there, hey there, hit me up when you're on, hey, whats up,

HOW ABOUT YOU FUCK OFF

fris 04-13-2009 12:31 PM

I hate when people hit me up, i would rather them hit me down.

Same people always asking for hardlinks, I only deal with softlinks, same with popups, popunders and exits, I only deal in popovers, popdowns, and enters

Damn newbies

qxm 04-13-2009 12:38 PM

yeap.... solicitors are certainly annoying .....

Well, there is hitting somebody up and then there is harassing them. Even with a 'cold' icq there is a difference between the two.

kowalsky 04-13-2009 01:56 PM

Can I send you a dove then?

Klen 04-13-2009 02:01 PM

I just say how they need to send 100 usd on my epass and voila i will promote them but somehow they go silence after that.

fris 04-13-2009 02:09 PM

aebn is the worst, they will even call you on the phone asking why you arent sending traffic anymore.

burntfilm 04-13-2009 02:39 PM

I would appreciate a program hitting me up on ICQ with something well thought out, whatever it is - but this guy constantly sending "hey" messages would get blocked.

Or everything what they know to say is "signup to program" and nothing else.
