Phillies fans...shed a tear with me

For Harry Kalas :(

Seriously feels close to a family member going.

very sad - died at the ballpark i think i heard. not many of the older legendary voices left in any of the major sports.

for Philly that's like LA losing Vin Scully.

Phillies Broadcaster Harry Kalas Dies at 73
Phillies broadcaster Harry Kalas passed out in a press box at Nationals Park today and was pronounced dead at GW Hospital. He was 73.

"We lost our voice today," team president David Montgomery said, his voice cracking. "He has loved our game and made just a tremendous contribution to our sport and certainly to our organization."

He was also the voice of NFL films. So, even if you aren't from Philly you probably know his voice.

WebairGerard 04-13-2009 12:38 PM

he was one of the best

Damn, he was a broadcasting giant -- one of the greatest voices in sports.

At least he got to see the Phils win it last year.

HotMeghan_GL 04-13-2009 12:44 PM

RIP Harry, it won't be the same here!

Wow. can't believe it. He was announcing for the Phillies forever. I'm going to miss him calling the games. R.I.P. Harry you'll be missed dearly.

I decided to think that him and Richie Ashburn are somewhere calling a heck of a game.

Sarah you should go to itunes and grab the podcast from the radio station WMMR 93.3 from today. The whole show is dedicated and about Harry and its very touching. Driving to work this morning listening to it I found myself laughing and tearing up. Well worth the listen for anyone that appreciated the voice and influence of Harry Kalas.

Just realized that the show literally just ended and not sure about the turnover for them getting the podcasts onto itunes so it might not be available yet.

He had a great run.

RIP
