Anyone been to Niagara Falls?

My gf and I are looking to take a mini vacation/romantic gayness getaway at the end of the month and thought going to Niagara Falls would be fun, neither one of us have ever been there plus i have a Canadian quarter I need to cash in.

Figured someone here would know a better spot to go to, or some things to do around the area... yes, I know there is some waterfall there too, i plan on taking a peak at that, but not sure what else there is to do.

Any suggestions? I'm not looking to drop a huge bankroll on this, just to get away and relax for a few days. actually, SHE is the one paying, I just have to plan it :winkwink:

Deej 04-13-2009 10:54 PM

Well I know for a fact Silent Knight has NEVER been there...

Sarah_Jayne 04-14-2009 04:43 AM

A number of times.

Here are a couple picks from my last visit:

Yep. Many times as a kid.

My grandmother had been married, or honeymooned or some shit there. So she would drag us there every now and then (seemed like every other year) for the memories. Long ass fucking drive just to get to the falls. For us as kids, very disappointing.

However, for her it was all about the memories.

Fun place, get a hotel at the Comfort In on main street, it's close to everything, you get parking and not much of a difference between the other places

LadyMischief 04-14-2009 04:56 AM

Definitely stay on the Canadian side no offense but the us side is quite grimey and dingey. if you are willing to spend a bit, get a falls-side room at the Sheraton on the Falls.. their restaurant has an awesome breakfast buffet and you can get a vip pass that can get you into great places like the Rainforest Cafe without waiting in line. Anywhere you go up Clifton hill is great so enjoy :)

Sarah_Jayne 04-14-2009 05:00 AM

The Canadian side is indeed better. Watch out for the beverage charges at those all you can eat breakfast buffets in the hotels.

polish_aristocrat 04-14-2009 05:42 AM

I hope to go there one day

:winkwink:

UniqueD 04-14-2009 08:22 AM

the falls are nice to look at for about 20 minutes. The town is a fucking tourist trap dump full of drunk college kids. thats just my 2 cents =)

LAJ 04-14-2009 08:29 AM

Check out Love Canal!

Bryan G 04-14-2009 08:30 AM

Check out www.travelzoo.com and seach for Niagara falls hotels, you can get some great deals.

LiveDose 04-14-2009 08:31 AM

I went when I was a kid. It is surreal looking. Absolutely beautiful.

MoreMagic 04-14-2009 08:31 AM

Ok let me agree with this, its cool town for 20 min at the falls and rest of day in the strip clubs. Rest fuck it, it's a nightmare without a end.

Shit I forgot the butterfly garden what is cool.

Vicious_B 04-14-2009 08:53 AM

If your not completely stuck on Niagra Falls you may want to check out Bushkills Falls in PA. Its absolutely beautiful, has some easy hiking between all the different waterfalls, there is a casino local and always something to do in the area. We have gone quite a few times and always had a blast.

Man am I the only person into macabre shit? After the romantic getaway part I'd head straight for love canal and then clarence center.

Scott McD 04-14-2009 09:39 AM

I'm supposed to be going in July for a visit. I'll probably get bored real quick to be honest...

PlugRush Sascha 04-14-2009 09:48 AM

I've been there a few times.

You can go to the wax museum. - http://www.cliftonhill.com/niagara_f...nd_wax_museum/ ... That site also a list of other shit to do (i.e. Ripley's and the Guinness World Record Museum).

And you should take the boat ride that goes up to the falls and gets you nice and wet.

Pete-KT 04-14-2009 09:49 AM

Niagra Falls is great

EuroRevenueUSA 04-14-2009 09:52 AM

been a ton, its fun

jakethedog 04-14-2009 09:54 AM

Been a few times .. maybe it is just me .. but it is not the most romantic place on earth thats for sure ..
We were thinking about heading to some place like Labrador or Nova Scotia and staying on the beach .. it is amazing in the spring, a bit cold still but the ocean and places like "the Bay if Fundy" are amazing .. and if you want to spring for a bit more .. come west to Vancouver or better yet Vancouver Island .. Tofino is just beautiful, relaxing and refreshing .. one of my favorite non-hot weather get-aways

Humbolt 04-14-2009 10:00 AM

I highly reccomend staying on the 5th floor or higher at the Sheriton facing the falls..
It is prob one of the most romantic views at night you will ever see in your life. They color up the falls at night and it is simply AWESOME. Next door is a casino and restaraunt and is still only a minute or two back accross to the US side. Be sure to drive around the city..lots of good shopping there.

I go once a year. There's a restaurant called Copacabana. It's a Brazilian steak house. It's fucking awesome. They come around and serve you all the Meat you can eat.

2 casinos, marine land, Tons of tourist shit wax museums and haunted houses, indoor water parks, Maid of the mist where they take you down into the falls in a boat.

It's lots of fun

Si 04-14-2009 10:23 AM

I've been 3 times.

Excellent place to go you'll enjoy it :thumbsup

If you wanna go out to a nice a restaurant go to beef baron (if i'm not mistaken) Had an excellent meal in there the last time I went.

Rochard 04-14-2009 10:47 AM

If you want to be romantic, check out the Skylon restaurant. It's a slowly revolving restaurant that over looks the falls.

Why would you associate Clarence Center with the Love Canal? Unless you are referring to the recent plane crash Clarence Center is an outstanding small town.

Do you know if the casinos have craps tables?

Thanks for the advice, really appreciate it. I looked online and there are two places close by, do you happen to know which one is better?

5875 Falls Avenue Niagara Falls, Ontario L2G 3K7 · Canada

6755 Fallsview Boulevard Niagara Falls, Ontario L2G 3W7 · Canada

The thing I hate about booking a trip is getting there and thinking "damn, I wish I would of chose THAT hotel instead, its much better."

Sarah_Jayne 04-14-2009 11:04 AM

Drive into town on the Canadian side and go to the UFO shaped diner is you kitch stuff like I do.

Every town I visit I like doing the touristy things... but I also like visiting the notorious "attractions".

Like the first time I visited LA... yeah I wanted to see Venice beach, Universal, sunset strip etc. but I also wanted to find the Sharon Tate and La Bianca houses. First time I went to Dallas all I cared about was Dealy Plaza... etc.

And yes, I know that Clarence Center is a nice small town... horribly unfortunate that they were hit... but it would be something I'd def. be interested in seeing.

Odie 04-14-2009 12:07 PM

do yourself a favour and hit me up on icq s othat ican point u in the right direction...I grew up 10 minutes away from there lol

Si 04-14-2009 12:09 PM

Don't forget if you need a hotel.

Visit The Hotel Box

You might be bored if you are into very interesting attractions. Not much to see in this case. I live about 5 miles north of the crash site. The location is on a small village street. Its been completely site leveled and looks like a lot that someone would be getting ready to build a house on.

It has an eerie vibe for many of the locals including myself just knowing what happened. But short of that not much to it.

If you want to see an oddball attraction I can take you to a Bills game some day :1orglaugh

Heheh... I remember back in the day when I lived in Minneapolis, our town was completely taken over by Bills fans... (woulda been around 1990)... nothing but mullets and zubaz as far as the eye could see!!

DaddyHalbucks 04-14-2009 01:52 PM

Go during the winter. There are alot fewer tourists.

This time of year might be OK too.

Avoid the summer months though!

candyflip 04-14-2009 01:57 PM

Don't bother with the US side. The Canadians side is absolutely gorgeous. Seeing both in comparison you'd be ashamed of how little we do.

GTS Mark 04-14-2009 02:19 PM

Hilton is nice, right across from the casino too
