Data Recovery Software - "Drive is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?"
 
Hi guys i need your help me please suggest asap what can i do to fix this problem :(

I had IDE hard disk and all my data was saved in that hard disk but I've got a new system where i got sata hard disk and then i connected both hard disk through sata to IDE cable, i got all drive's data except one drive and this drive is really very important for me because i had stored all webs related in this drive and when i try to open this drive i get this error msg:

Best bet? Get an old system and slave it over... is the drive dead? It might be an IRQ conflict or something.

If you need software for a drive that still spins check out http://www.runtime.org/

If the drive is kaput there are data recovery warehouses but expect to pay big

i would put the drive in an external usb hd box and connect it

As i mentioned above that both hard disks are different types one is IDE hard and 2nd isa sata hard so just connected both hard disks via sata to IDE cable, all drives are working fine except one drive and that is very important for me :(

what was your old system OS and what are you using in the new one?

"Drive is not formatted. Do you want to format it now" this message can happen sometimes on a completely valid drives if OS doesn't or can't interpret drive's file system


not sure how Sata to IDE cables works and if there additional things need to be done in order for them to work

Don't panic yet. Put it in another machine (your old system?), the drive is probably fine. It's possible there's some quirk with the SATA-IDE translation which is confusing the OS.

Doesn't your new mainboard have an IDE port?

the drive probably has an older filesystem which is not recognized in new system, mount it back into the old PC

Whatever you do, DO NOT reformat the drive.

The SATA interface is 'Serial' and IDE is a 'parallel' interface. Unless you have a special cable or adapter, the drive is probably not going to work in that configuration.

IDE drives could only have two drives per cable, and one was called "master" and the second was the "slave" drive. The position on the cable OR the jumper on the drive determined it's status. Check on the drive itself to see if there is a jumper, if there is move it to 'auto' or simply remove it and try again.

If no luck that way, you will need to install into a system that uses actual IDE interface and make sure to pay attention to the master/slave status, or it won't work there either.

Three people if I counted right have told you to put the drive in another (prolly older) system. Suggest you take that advice. Anything else is just alot of fucking around and wasting time at this point.


Assume you know how to network two PCs. Also assume you know hoow to install an IDE drive. If those assumptions aren't right, then getting some on site help makes a whole lot of sense.

An alternative is to take the whole thing to Geek Squad and pay. They'll prolly look at some of your data.

I've used R-Studio in the past with very good results. It can repair and mount almost any filesystem so you can copy the files to another drive.

why not just connect the IDE driver to the IDE connector (set drive as slave) and the SATA drives connect to the SATA ports. Boot up from the SATA drive with the the OS and check if your IDE drive shows up and is usable.

Clearly you have no clue what the fuck you are doing, so why are you even thinking about trying to learn it now? Find someone who knows what they are doing and get them over to your house - and yes, expect to pay dearly if you want service on a Sunday night.

Assuming the drive is mechanically and electrically fine how would RAID1 save the OP?

A better way is to use a NAS that runs a stable operating system. :winkwink: I've been doing this for about a year now.
