In the first place, the overall sales for the hole industry should not be worse, because there are more surfers = more potential income. Everything equal... And don't focus on ratios. Ratios doesn't matter, because there are more paysites to choose from and surfers are visiting more sites before signing up for anything. Its the overall number of sales that matters...
You can't do much about the general economy, but you can do something about the other things that reduce your sales. There are illegal and legit competition, but for gods sake; do not let your affiliates take the beat. Whats the point of "shaving" someone by 25% if they could make you twice the amount by good partnership? It won't work - only for a short period of time... By "shaving" I do not mean directly cheating, but any activity that reduce your affiliates income. Its your choice, but affiliates can also choose to promote someone else instead of suffering of cross-sales, customer emails and so on, when their rebills and sales "suddenly" drops.

There are many affiliates having the ability, experience, ideas and willingness to fight, or at least limit, the consequenses of things like illegal tubes and piracy. But what they need is the right tools and the motivation. I have one idea, but let me first be clear; This has nothing to do with beeing lazy, but time is often the issue and the limit.

FHGs is a great thing, and it made it easier and saved lots of time for all of us. But I think its time to take this concept some steps further, because hardworking affiliates who are serious about making money through quality, do not focus primarily on how many FHGs you attach in your affiliate emails weekly or your quarterly $100 pps, but which value you can contribute to their own domains and business on longer sight. Lets be honest; FHGs do not contribute any significant value, except for the time saved. It doesn't improve SEO and more important when thinking of quality; it doesn't improve the uniqueness of affiliates domains and thereby generate returning potential customers. Sure, there are great FHG designs, but everybody else link to the same design and content.

What amaze me, is that few (if any) sponsors offering their affiliates to include FHGs into their own domains and designs. And I do not talking about frames, but hotlink/php includes. The last option, php includes, has so much potential, if offered. The bandwidth doesn't matter either, because a FHG domain does not generate more bandwidth than a hotlink, right?

Lets take this further:
Besides free content which is offered already but time limits whom to choose from, sponsors should integrate a script where affiliates can simply choose from a set, for instance 16 photos or some movies, and host it free, but into affiliates own domains and designs. As hotlinking. The sponsor then provide the content + default refcode (php include=refcode), and the affiliate provide their own custom design.
To avoid abuse and others hotlinking, of course there have to be some kind of approvement of the domain before giving access to such hotlinking solutions, but I can't see any technical problems with it. And the issues about 2257 is still the same as the affiliate would host free content by himself.

This is just one idea, maybe offered already between individuals, but I think it should be default offer for all. This dynamic solution has a lot of potential, except for the default option mentioned here.
And I can only speak for myself, but I'm sure there are other affiliates, big and small - doesn't matter - who would like this option. Because it would motivate and improve promotions to a new level. I really hope some/more sponsors will do it. Not sure if dedicated designers like it though :winkwink:
