Uhh, no she doesn't.

I was at the Saturday Night Live taping when she was the musical guest. You should have seen people in audience looking at each other with looks on their faces like they just smelled shit. It sounded fucking horrible.

cykoe6 04-22-2009 07:29 PM

Dammmnnn it is hard to believe that is real. It almost has to be fake. That is horrible.

Just Mike 04-22-2009 09:11 PM

yeah Ive heard the story about her ripping off the chick that wrote that song. I think she from Orange County or something and was a singer songwriter until Beyonce stole this song.

cess 04-22-2009 10:46 PM

No idea who that is or if it's fake. But other singers have been caught sounding like complete shit when they aren't trying. I guess they are just lip syncing and someone recorded what's going into the mic. If they are lip syncing there's no reason to try to actually sound good. I'm sure most of the time they wouldn't want to strain their voice either. No ones going to hear it so why take the risk? Ok well most the time they won't.

Could also be that she can't hear herself. No need to when lip syncing, but it means her pitch control is open loop... you could be 5% off or 20% off and you'd never know.

rowan 04-22-2009 11:06 PM

How long before agents start producing contracts that specifies the mic must be fake. :)

Spunky 04-22-2009 11:16 PM

Just google it. She has sung live hundreds of times everyone knows she can sing.

Fletch XXX 04-24-2009 06:11 AM

it is not fake. Its called Pitch Correction and no major star on any tv show or stage is not using them.

Board feed is before it ges processed, its the feed into the soundboard.

if you guys dont think britney Spears and all these other pop performers are using pitch correction you guys are just not hip to whats going on behind thwe curtains.

I worked with audio for a very long time, and have friends who record bands for a living.

its called PITCH CORRECTIon folks. ;)and it is NOT FAKE.

And all those feeds go through pitch correction.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pitch_correction

Ive worked sound boards for live shows in the past, including a performance by John Densmore of the Doors lol :)

note:

"The widest use of pitch correctors is in Western popular music on vocal lines."

chances are, none of you have ever heard "her" voice, only the corrected voice. If its an album, it is 100% PITCH CORRECTED

Sure they all use it when recording but in live performances? Even if they did i dont think it was used in talent contests when she was a little girl, I am almost certain they dont use it on shows like the X Factor either in which her performance was incredible. It was fake anyway as the BBC article below shows.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8016784.stm
Beyonce laughs off internet hoax
Beyonce Knowles
The recording was taken from the singer's performance last year

US singer Beyonce Knowles has laughed off a hoax recording on the internet which was tampered with to make her singing sound off-key.

Radio host Howard Stern played the clip on his show saying he did not know who had leaked it, but thought the singer would want to "strangle" them.

The rendition of her singing If I Were a Boy has been identified as a joke.

Knowles told the US TV show Today that although she had not heard it, she had been told it was "very over the top".

'Manipulated'

She added: "I haven't heard it, but I do know that it was a complete joke.

"It's so amazing that someone in their home can do a little prank and it can end up on these major radio shows."

On his Sirius radio show, Stern said the recording had been taken from a "board feed", which is the raw voice of the star singing along to a backing track.

Art student Matthew Zeghibe from Connecticut created the clip and said he was "just trying to make a point".

It was just for a good laugh. It was a goof, just for fun
Beyonce prankster Matthew Zeghibe

Speaking to Rolling Stone he said: "I wanted to show people how easy it is to manipulate someone's voice.

"If I can do it with a clip I pulled off of TV, imagine what they are doing on records and during live performances.

"The entire industry has been so manipulated, because there's such an emphasis on perfection, so when something like this happens, it causes such a stir."

His version was taken from Knowles' performance on the Today show in November last year.

"It was just for a good laugh. It was a goof, just for fun. I do a lot of parodies on my YouTube channel, and it just so happens this one got a little out of hand," he said.

pitch correction is used in live performances everyday.

Its even been reportedly used for guest performers on American idol.

Billie Joel uses it live all the time, and any major big star like Cher (who is on the wiki for pitch correction and autotune) use it extensively for touring.

yes, pitch correction is used for live performances every single day.

In fact, its used for superbowl anthems!

Billie Joel used it to sing the Superbowl anthem lol

you guys need to look behind the curtain...

A lot of pop albums have slight pitch correction, but its not as much as you think. Its not like they ONLY hire bad singers or something, come on now.

And re: SNL... They have notoriously bad sound on their show, I've heard many bands complain.

Fletch XXX 04-24-2009 12:00 PM

here is Billie Joel doing national anthem using autotune lol

you realize theyve busted SNL singers for lip syncing right?

lol

look behind the curtain, autotune is used more than you think ;)

Ive worked extensively with recording software, including digidesigns protools, and pitch correction is used way more than people think.

Quote:

Neko Case in an 2006 interview with Pitchfork Media gave an example about how prevalent pitch correction is in the industry:

I'm not a perfect note hitter either but I'm not going to cover it up with auto tune. Everybody uses it, too. I once asked a studio guy in Toronto, "How many people don't use auto tune?" and he said, "You and Nelly Furtado are the only two people who've never used it in here."

I'm in the music industry, I have a indie record label and multiple groups, I know a lot of things. I live behind the curtain.

I'd actually like to know the process of using autotune live, especially for vocals. You'd have to pre-program every song and sync it up right? Is it even feasible for anyone but Billy Joel, Cher and making sure the Superbowl isn't fucked up?

Mr.Right - Banned For Life 04-24-2009 12:23 PM

Youre aware people like Billie Joel tours with a rack of macs running serious audio software and has been for like 20+ years?

Billie Joel has had one of the most compuerized, synthesized touring rigs Ive ever seen.

If you cant even imagine how he does it, you really havnt looked behind the curtain, nor do you live behind it.

I was reading about Billie Joels set up more than 10+ years ago in Electronic Musician mags and its been sick since then.

People didnt even know some of his pianos were in fact, not real ones and he had synthesizer modules placed inside of them. Looked like real piano, sounded like a perfectly tuned one, but its not. Why? Because after touring so long, lugigng around pianos sucks when compared to light weight synth modeuls that sound exactly right every note...

Seriously, im not trying to argue, but considering the advancaes in technology, the imagination no longer limits us, nor does our vocal capacity, audio software is the only limit.

and its not just for recording, we are talking about live performances.

Billy Joel has more computers running on stage than musicians on stage with hims lol I have friends whove been building road cases for touring bands for decades, and they started outfitting roadies with macintosh holding rack mounts many moons ago.

I'm not arguing... I was hoping you'd point me to a tutorial or something. I just want to know whats involved in live autotuning vocals which you seem to know something about.

I will see what i can dig up... autotune however, is just one example, not the end all...

We use autotune lightly for some backup vocals and we've used the robot settings in a tongue and cheek way. Recorded though.

Recently, we've been running 1 vocal fx mic into Ableton and then putting chops, glitchy shit, distortion on it.

Autotune would be a nice addition to our live FX, but I always thought you needed to be Billy Joel to afford the hardware to do it.

And as for the American Idol shit, if the autotune notes are programmed to the original song, what if they sing with different timing, couldn't they accidentally get autotuned incorrectly?

Billy Joel has used the highest poweeed macs in his gear set up for a very long time.

As ive laid out, he even had pianos gutted and had synth modules placed inside all of which are controlled through master and slave midi.

Without exaggerating, back in the day he was running something like 5+ macs, I am sure his set up would blow the mind off anyone ecept the roadies who rigged it.

Hey dumbass the 26 yearold Art Student that MADE the fake board feed posted a youtube video talking about how he did it and how the technology is used to fix people's voices or in his case make them sound worse.
