Good-Bye Chrysler

Quote:

DETROIT (Reuters) - The Treasury is preparing a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing for Chrysler LLC that could come as soon as next week, The New York Times reported on Thursday, citing people with direct knowledge of the matter.

The Treasury has an agreement in principle with the United Auto Workers union to protect pensions and retiree health care benefits as a condition of the bankruptcy filing, the paper said.

Italy's Fiat would finalize its alliance with Chrysler while the U.S. automaker is under bankruptcy protection, the paper reported.

Chrysler has until April 30 to complete its partnership with Fiat and win concessions from its first-lien lenders and the UAW, or face a cut-off of government funding and a potential bankruptcy.

The Times said U.S. and Canadian governments were prepared to provide the financing that Chrysler needed to operate while under bankruptcy protection.

Chrysler was not immediately available for comment.

We both know that we have chrysler cars that are only gonna appreciate in value over the next few years :) Unique and not very many of them made to begin with and even less around now. I'm pretty sure that no matter what happens to Chrysler it won't affect you and I.

Chapter 11 implies a re-organization, not dissolution, of a company. They aren't going away. They should, but they aren't. Taxpayers will continue to have the pleasure of funding them while they continue to fail.

american cars are absolute shit and these companies should drop off the face of the earth.

i have a writer that works for me.

he worked for a company where he would write reviews for cars.

these were all american cars.

they would bring him a new car each week, he would drive it for the week, write a review for it, publish it all over the interwebs, they would come pick it up and give him a new car each friday. so it was interesting to see each new car from that perspective. as we met each week to discuss business, heres an example of shit i saw.

- a lincoln mkx (whatever those cross over SUV's are called) - had ever body part so misaligned that i was convinced that the car had previously been totaled.... even though it was actually a new car.

- a ford f350 with all the bells and whistles (a 40k plus redneck ride)... you could stand outside the truck, close the drivers door and see day light through the edge of the door.

- there was one car (jeep liberty maybe or it was something similar) where the gauges were totally obscured by the retarded, oversized steering wheel and you couldn't reach the radio knobs from sitting in the driver seat

i could ask him to send me more examples. but i remember the weekly conversation was always the same "hey man... check out how fucked up this thing is..." and i was always totally stunned at how retarded an interior could be laid out, how shitty something could drive or just how fucked up a car could be coming straight off the assembly line.

anyone that thinks american cars aren't total shit compared to japanese and german cars is living in pure fucking denial. if you have any exposure to cars at all, and can compare an american car in one class to a japanese or german car in the same class.. there is just no comparison.

fuck american automakers
fuck unions

these companies need to die. i can't believe that in the good ole' US of A... were are going full communist with this shit and borrowing money from the chinese to prop up horrible companies that have totally failed. scary times we are living in. its going to be a bumpy ride for the next 10 years. and where is this headed? are we going to be like the french and just start taking executives hostage until they agree to a 30 hr work week and 4 months paid vacation per year? this country is going into the toilet fast... spend more time striking than working because a company had the audacity to expect people to actually work and earn their money?

you're right. i'm 38. i've never seen an american car other than in comic books and street graphitti if you read what i wrote, you would know that i was making the point that it was an interesting opportunity to look at a new car with him, get his opinion and have him point out all the flaws and things people didn't like about it... not to mention all the obvious flaws that they came straight off the assembly line with - misaligned body parts, doors not closing correctly or whatever.

oddly, i've never had that issue sitting down in any mercedes or bmw i've ever owned. but maybe its just a coincidence that americans buy so many foreign cars in their own back yard.

kowalsky 04-24-2009 10:49 AM

How many people work for Chrysler? Thatīs gonna be painful...
