How to get a thumb image to the left of your Google listings?
Example: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&c...on&btnG=Search
Check the first link to a datpiff.com mixtape. It's a thumb image of the mixtape. I wonder how he got them to do that? Is it some kind of tag in the header? |
I doubt its a meta tag, but like their directory structure, they have algorithms that will pick up to 6 popular links on your site and post em.. at their discression...

A lot of tube sites have that, youtube, break, metacafe, etc. I think its done on a case by case basis.

it's reserved for gangster rappers you need bullet wounds and street cred to get one

Your site needs authority in order to get the thumbs displayed.
the meta for it is Code:
<link rel="image_src" href="http://www.domain.com/thumb.jpg" /> |
Hm, I know datpiff is pretty "official", but there are a couple other mixtapes sites with the same amount of traffic.
|
Traffic volume doesn't equal authority... it's just one part of it, a minor part at it.
Find another search phrase that pulls a video on the listing and chances are it's going to have a thumbnail next to it. Number 10 slot here has a thumbnail for a video. |

They are listed as a video publisher on Video.google.com That thumb is cached there or fed through mRSS and detected as the indexed video listed on their page.
