- 2003 Flesh Eating Bacteria, this "superbug," also known as MRSA, has been around for years, we were all going to catch it and it will eat your skin off your body = certain death for everyone

- 2004 SARS, everyone in Asia was wearing a surgical mask, this respiratory infection was going to be the death of us all = certain death for everyone

- 2005 Salmonella, "don't eat the (insert food here)," is all we heard on the news = certain death for anyone who even looked at (insert food here)

- 2006 Bird Flu, another mutated virus; Oprah, Dr. Phil, and Larry King had "experts" predicting, wait for it..... = certain death for everyone

- 2007 West Nile Virus, mosquito-transmitted virus, we were all spraying ourselves with insect repellant, one bite from a mosquito = certain death

- 2008 E. Coli, food-borne bacteria, "don't eat the (insert food here)," is all we heard on the news = certain death for anyone who even looked at (insert food here)

There is no reason to stock up on Tamiflu; no reason to take any "immune boosters," and no reason to run around screaming that the sky is falling.

(unless the White House decides to fly a huge plane over a major city or something, but that would never happen)

omg :1orglaugh

exactly.

we'll never know if these virii would have caused more issues if the info/concern about them was not communicated around the globe.

scottybuzz 04-30-2009 11:37 AM

did mad cow disease ever threaten human life? I thought it was just cows and economic reasons for farming.

Despite his dramatizations, many of those were risks that were thwarted.

Salmonella and E.Coli are food related issues that have gotten better as our standards for food preperation and cooking have gotten better. I don't know why he'd even list these. People get sick and even die from them all the time.

A lot of the others were things that had the potential to be serious pandemics. If a strain mutated into something deadlier, or became air-borne. None of his dramatizations come close to what public officials had ever said about those things. No one said heads were going to fry or everyone was going to die. The effects of quarantines, anti-virals, and other preventative measures helped curb what could have been a major pandemic. Sure the media has blown things out of proportion, but I don't think the organizations involved have. Heck, I'd much rather be safe than sorry when it comes to issues like this.

But hey, who are these world renowned doctors to argue with a pharmacist selling an e-book.
