Gigenet Hosting - Anyone Tried Them?

I'm a long time lurker, first time poster. Don't judge me by the post count or the date of joining. I've been in the business for a while and am looking forward to sharing good times on the board, but let's not talk about this now.

I wanted to ask about Gigenet hosting. Has anyone tried them? What was the experience? Good or bad?

PS - I know there is a handful of long term members who repeatedly jump on every webhosting thread and spam it with recommendations for the same companies over and over again. I'm aware of each of those, you don't have to tell me that I should go with them, that they are solid, blah blah. At this point I would just like to ask whether anyone has had experience with Gigenet. They host some big sites and there doesn't seem to be anything on them from people complaining. I had a brief chat with one of their sales reps and they are open to hosting adult websites of any type, for as long as it's not illegal.

They have some attractive specials going, such as the current Quad Core Xeon E5410 with 16GB RAM, 2x500GB HDDs, 6TB on 100Mbps for $249/mo (paid quarterly) or $299 paid monthly. That's a very attractive price for type of server I need. Just wandering if anyone has anything to say on this particular host. Shoot :thumbsup

I've never heard of them, but I'm sure someone here has.. I'm sure someone will post some info.

As with all hosting companies, it depends on your needs. What do you need in a hosting company?

Assuming you are a good fit with them, you could do a whole lot worse. They operate in our local market, and are known to be one of the (few) non-shady hosts around.

Hope it helps! Obviously as a "competitor" I can't give you a direct recommendation, but I also haven't heard anything bad from their end users - even those we were migrating to us.

To be honest, after re-reading my post, it does sound kind of spammy. It’s actually a genuine question, but somehow I didn’t realize that perhaps this board gets spammed so much that every even the most legitimate request from someone who appears to be a newb would be suspected of being a spam. Hard to argue against that and to be honest, I don’t care.

I suppose one could always ask an admin here to check out where the website I own is hosted. I signed up and confirmed this account using an email address that’s associated with my website, not a free based email, like yahoo or gmail. Fact of a matter is, I have a dedicated server with one of the popular hosts that actually gets spammed ad nauseum by so called “established” members. Admin could easily look that up, as he could look up my IP address from where this email was verified and from where I make all of my posts. It’s based in Canada, not somewhere in the US where the host in question runs their operation from.

Again, this was a genuine question and I’m in no way associated with this host, but I understand that a newb asking about a host that’s not “approved” by majority would be considered a spammer. And as per the above – admin could easily verify that I have a dedicated server with an “approved” host that you guys like seeing spammed a lot here and that I’m located far away from where Gigenet operates, but why would I want to prove anything to anyone here? Not like I actually care or that it actually means anything that someone on some board thinks I could be a spammer. It’s just a forum board. With it or without it, life doesn’t change.

Most dont care if your spamming or not the host in question does not do much adult hosting as far as i know so not many people will know them here.

Hell i live waking distance from them and only heard of them a few months ago and it was on WHT never heard of them before then or since then anywhere else.

And that's the kind of thing I was trying to find out. I was told they will host sites that are not illegal, but having half my sites adult related, I was curious if any adult webmaster had anything to say in this regard.

The pointer to WHT was actually a helpful one. There are several issues people had (or have) with them and it looks like when things are going good, they are going good, but when they are going bad, they could be going pretty bad - like 18 hour downtime and what not.

And that's basically how you can tell an outstanding host - how do they handle it when thigs go shitty. Any host is good when nothing unexpected happens, but when a situation arises and your host supports you and takes care of the issue without you having to put everything aside and look after it yourself - that's how you know you're with a good host
