that doesnt just work for stocks... fuck that was a good secret, someone always tells the good shit and ruins it. Good thing most people dont have the resources to build a bot network and arent smart enough to figure it out.

d-null 05-11-2009 08:10 PM

not sure how far this goes, but wouldn't this possibly be a very serious crime in the U.S.?

yeah, yahoo got ruined by the one aff affiliate.

rowan 05-11-2009 08:11 PM

I remember pump and dump email spams from years ago. I checked a few randomly and they were always low value penny stocks. You could see them leap as gullible idiots jumped on the bandwagon......

Trust me there are a lot more than one.

And a rack of computers and a few hundred of your own IPs spread across different networks, is useful for a lot more than just spamming a chat room.

Pumping and dumping stocks is a crime per the SEC. The blog entry and this thread is purely for information purposes so people don't fall for this.

A more "legit" use for this buzz building method would be MOVIE promotions (ie., movie buzz gets built up by huge number of bloggers blogging about the title of the movie, etc)

It's actually limitless re what kind of product, etc. Another obvious one is DOMAIN buzz building.

The crime aspect was just the most dramatic example.

the.drunk 05-11-2009 08:23 PM

shut up now

You're the one of the respected users for me here, but why do You guys making those kind of blogs, don't do that, You're in this biz since many years, couldn't You learn not to share good shit?

when you deliver what You know, some dumbasses will ruin it in a shorter period then You can even expect, those kinda stuff harming our business.

i advise You to deal something different.

if i were You, i would care for my money to make living, not for my competitors, we have lots of them in this game, ok i don't say let's not share anything, but there are things to be shared and not to be shared Publicly :thumbsup

A lot of people actually surf them to cash in.
I remember reading about one guy who managed about 200+ email addresses that he published everywhere online, to catch huge volumes of spam - to increase his chance of getting in right at the start, and then would ditch out quickly.

I mean, it's real money we're talking about...

ExLust 05-12-2009 04:40 AM

Great trick.

V_RocKs 05-12-2009 06:08 AM

Yes, but most of them were still gullible idiots. :winkwink:

I also considered that if you got in quickly you could probably make something of it. Being in Australia my ability to trade US penny stocks was more complicated.

Setting up addresses to be deliberately harvested and spammed is genius!

Miguel T 05-12-2009 06:17 PM

Interesting trick...
